LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Different March

We awakened March 1, 2010 to yet another deep snow!  I wanted to stay in bed all day, but dragged myself from under the covers and put out the feeders and water for the birds.  Oh, and then I shoveled and shoveled and shoveled.  The shoveling didn't break my back, but it almost broke my spirit.  Afterwards, I relaxed and watched the birds.

I don't think this cardinal liked the snow any more than I did.

The goldfinch has a mouthful of snow along with the sunflower seed.

The snow was heavy on the branches.

How much more of this stuff were we going to see?

Fast forward to yesterday...March 1, 2011.  Now this is the weather we moved here to enjoy.  Sunny and mild with temperatures in the mid-fifties!

A very different kind of bird soaking up the sunshine.

What a gorgeous day!

We will no doubt have some cold days ahead of us, perhaps even more snow.  But this March weather is more typical and we can expect more and more of these days.  We look outside at 6:00 pm and there is still daylight.  Oh, how I love it.

NO! I can't believe that! I have the back door open and the tulip magnolia trees, daffodils, redbuds, and forsythia are all glorious. Of course, if you're getting snow, that probably means that later in the week we'll get a killing frost that will ruin the azaleas.

Must say that your snow is lovely. And that wonderful header. . . oh, my! I LOVE ait!

We were living in Weaverville when the March "white hurricane" of '93 came to town, so, yes, I know what it can be like. I am so very, very glad that this is a kinder, gentler March for you! It's nice up in Ohio, too. I'll try to post some pics very soon.

We always had some faith in the old saw in you don't like the weather in Minnesota... stick around for a few hours and it'll change. That theory has been disproved this winter. Snow - snow- and more snow.....

Love your new header! If it's any consolation we had more snow up here and it's BITTER cold! I guess March is coming in like a lion and then should go out like a lamb! Spring can't come soon enough for this tired body!

I really like the weather of March, 2011, much better than the weather of march, 2010. I, too, am enjoying the longer days.

I'd say I'm jealous, but we've had two days with sunshine, so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Enjoy your glorious weather!

I love this milder weather also--but let's just hope that we don't have what happened in 2007 when we had a horrible freeze the first of April and lost most of our new Spring growth... Remember that???? Yipes.
Hugs,
Betsy

WE are all getting geared up for Spring....and being teased with these warm days! I too am afraid we will still have some "cold" weather before Spring is here to stay!

Great Pics!

Definitely a MUCH better March for you guys :) We're getting warmer too - although it was still in the 20s when I left for work this morning, it's been heating up to the 50s or so during the day.

We need those pics from the past sometimes to see what we have instead of what we lack! I keep some of those of those kind of pics at hand:):) Thanks for sharing this!

Beautiful banner art! I love it.

I'm glad that you're getting your favorite kind of spring weather! What a difference a year makes. I'll have to visit your blog to get my "fixes" of spring until ours finally arrives.
