What do September Showers Bring?

MUSHROOMS!!!

We had an inch of rain recently. When I went walking out back, I was amazed to see that the ground had exploded with mushrooms. I've never before seen so many mushrooms of so many different types. I must admit that the only mushrooms I can identify (outside the grocery store) are morels.

We've had so little rain that it seems very strange indeed to see so many of them. So here, then are shots of some of the different mushrooms I found in my back yard. I did not include all the different types and I cannot identify a single one of them. Except for the ones in the last picture.

So how is it that I can identify the mushrooms in the last picture and not any of the others?
Because I purchased them from my favorite potter. They are not real.

Ha! I was fascinated by that last mushroom until I read a little farther. I was wondering why I've never gotten such a cool looking mushroom!

I thought that one looked real, too! I was thinking, those don't grow around here. Some potter!

Carolyn: That first one may be Hen of the Woods and it may be edible. Not sure and they are usually at the base of a tree.
I thought that last one was the prettiest. Nicely tricked.

Lynne - They never decay or crumble.

Wanderer - We have more of them scattered throughout the yard.

Dog geek - We really like having the pottery ones. With so little rain, we haven't seen many real mushrooms this year.

Twisted - Yep, our potter is great.

Diane - Thanks for dropping by. Yes, I thought all the mushrooms were quite attractive.

Cicero - I'm amazed at the number of people here who gather and eat so many varieties of wild mushrooms.

Science guy - Thanks

Fishing guy - I thought the same, although it appears to be growing on the ground. I didn't see any evidence of a tree stump.

Laura - I couldn't believe how many different ones there were. Many more than I put in the post.

Helen - Thanks

Ruth - We have several scattered through the yard.

Kerri - I love them AND I love to eat them, but only if someone else has identified them for me.

Adventure girl - Thanks for dropping by. The mountains make for a great retirement place.
