We have several inches of snow and it is still falling. Many times we are spared even in the face of heavy predictions. But this time we are in the midst of the snowstorm pounding the South.
The shrubs laden with heavy wet snow
A goldfinch grabbing a sunflower seed that fell on the deck railing
A wren and titmouse share a feeder
A titmouse stands on the deck beneath the railing looking out at the snow
So how much snow will we get? That's anybody's guess. But if the temperatures remain below freezing this snow will stay on the roads for a while. Like most mountain folk we are prepared. Plenty of food for man, dog, and bird. Books to read and projects to knit. Movies to watch and friends to visit. We're hoping to get less rather than more, but we will have to take what we get.

I'm sure being hardened ex Wisconsinites a little snow shouldn't be a problem. I admit surrounded by trucks and cars on the icy interstates in the South I was more that a little nervous. Of course, the first heavy snow here in Gopherland has the same effect. It usually takes a bit for people to remember to slow down...:)
I'm glad you guys are hunkered down!
I hope the storm passes quickly and that the temps warm up in preparation for spring. It has been a surprisingly weird winter everywhere. Stay warm and safe there.
Staying indoors with books, internet and plenty of food on hand works for us as well. Glad the birds also had a meal. Hope you are all safe with this latest round of winter nastiness, but then it is the season.
Hi there, I heard you were getting hit with a storm-I love your attitude. Like you said, there isn't anything we can do about the snow levels. Today is sunny and I hope it melts a good amount of the snow we have. It has still been in the 20's and 30's but brisk when you are outside. Glad you still have birds; this morning was the first time I have seen any this winter, except Hunter found the remains of a bird that was killed in the yard. Stay warm and safe my friend.
Hugs, Noreen
Wren butt! And that titmouse watching it snow...I love your bird pictures! I hope my loved ones down yonder were prepared. Big snow in the Piedmont, from the looks of it. And Heaven help those poor people who got the heavy ice storm. Been through those, and it can take days upon days to repair the power grid, etc.
Amazing winter storms this year -- but perhaps we needed them after several years of low rainfall. You have the right idea -- stock up and stay snug and enjoy -- barbara
I thought of you when I saw your neck of the woods on the news--How much did you all end up with? We got well over a foot here, and we're supposed to get a little more overnight, but we'll see.
Hope you all fared okay, and your week is ending on a good note!
But it does look beautiful. (says the girl with her a/c running!) I hope you are able to get out and about soon.
XO
I hope you all came through without a loss of power. We did and were happy to see sunshine this morning. The birds are getting triple rations.
Tku for thinking of me at this most difficult time. The garden is flooded, there will be survivors and fatalities. Losing plants, I can live with that, I have friends whose homes are flooded, some with 6ft of water.
I count my blessings.
I know that you are also facing severe weather......I do so hope all is well.
I follow the USA weather .....
I have dear friends in Kansas City and Ind.
Climate change is well and truly upon us, we must learn to adapt.
Thinking of all the people whose lives are in turmoil.
Oooh, it is just gorgeous to me. I know you are trying to get away from all that white stuff, as for me, I long for it. Ready to head back to the cabin after my river exploits...have I said that life is good lately? I am grateful for all of it:)
