Fridays are Golden

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Dichi Sirius Eleanor Rose!!!

Our Ellie will be five years old tomorrow. She was born at Dichi Goldens , one of two females in a litter of nine. (Click on "Dichi Goldens" to visit their Web site. If you love Goldens, or dogs in general, you won't regret it.) You may wonder about her name. Dichi is from the breeder and all dogs bred by them have "Dichi" as the first name to recognize the kennel. The name Sirius comes from the Dog Star, the brightest star in southern sky. Ellie's mother was named Star, so Sirius is a tribute to her. Eleanor Rose is a tribute to a woman I admire greatly, Eleanor Roosevelt.

Ellie has a scar near her left eye. When she was only a few weeks old, she somehow managed to crawl under a freezer and get stuck. At some point during the ordeal she sustained a cut near her eye resulting in the scar you see. We were told about the injury and offered the pick of the next litter. We said we wanted this dog, so we were given a discount. (We have never told Ellie she was marked down.)

Ellie has brought us joy every single day of her life. She is intelligent, loving, and eager to please. We've never had a dog with a better temperament. Tomorrow's birthday will pass largely unnoticed. No special meal, no cake and ice cream. Ellie thrives on routine, and a celebration would not be for her...it would be for us. She wouldn't understand special treatment one day and back to normal the next. So we will simply give her the same love and affection we give her every day. At dinner tomorrow night, please raise your wine glass to Ellie and wish her a happy birthday.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELLIE!!!

She's beautiful, scar or no scar. We had a birthday party complete with ice cream, cupcakes, candles, blowers, and Scooby Doo party hats on Bella's first birthday. Actually, the was for US :o)

Hey, Bella is missing a toenail and he tail is missing but I didn't get a discount...

Oh, I love it. And I love Ellie (from afar)! The scar story is a wonderful bit, and of course you wanted her--not a "perfect" substitute.
Happy Birthday Ellie--can she at least have an extra doggie bone?

Happy Birthday, Ellie!
The image of her being stuck under a freezer is scary.
She's a lovely girl, regardless of the scar.

Thank you all on Ellie's behalf for the birthday wishes.

Nina - Yes, the freezer thing is frightening. The breeder had litter after litter, year after year in the same room and this was the first time any puppy had crawled under. Looking at the small space, it was hard to believe she managed to crawl there, but he secured it anyway.

What a coincidence. I was just doing a google search of dichi goldens and I happened upon your blog. We have Ellie's litter sister in our family! We met unnamed Ellie when we came to pick up our girl, Dichi Kala Lily. She was named Kala (Hawaiian for "sun") because of the Hawaiian background of her Dad Kona and grandma Maui, and because the sun is a Star, her mother's name. Lily was chosen because I like Calla Lilies. Boy, they sure look like sisters. Kala smiles like that too. I'd post a picture if I knew how to do it! Email me at drbradley1608@charter.net if you'd like me to send you a pic. (I do know how to do that!)

kalalily - Wow! How exciting! I sent you an email. If you don't receive it, let me know. I'd love to see your girl.

Ellie is a gorgeous golden. My wife and I stumbled across your site because we are researching Dichi as a possible breeder for our next golden. We lost our sweet beautiful golden boy, Simon, 3 weeks ago to cancer. He was just 11 years old. We're still very devastated and sad, but Simon would want us open our hearts and home to a new golden. We have a few questions of you about Dichi. Would you mind emailing me at ggdenny@gmail.com?

I bought a Dichi Golden about a year ago and couldn't be happier. He is a wonderful dog. Do you know of any Dichi reunions? I would love to see him and his relatives all together.

Jillian - How wonderful. I cannot tell you how happy we have been with our girls. Amazing how many Dichi owners I have come across.
