LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Lucy on Friday

Believe it or not, after all this time we still have some bits snow on the north slopes and along the roadside.  Lucy is so very glad to see the snow gone, although as it melted she did venture to walk about the yard.

Most of the snow had melted when she gingerly walked around, scouting out various scents in the snow.

Very careful as she went down some wide stone steps

"I'm not sure this was a good idea.  Think I'll head back inside."

Our son and daughter-in-law are adamantly against the commercialization of the prolific Disney products and wanted to keep them from Violet as long as possible.  Well, that has ended as someone gave her Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse stuffed animals.

This photograph clearly shows what an 18-month old feels like after so much unwrapping and oohing and aahing.  It's just a little bit too much.  She does love the Mickey and Minnie but is clearly exhausted with the flurry of activity on Christmas morning.  I told my son to be happy it wasn't a princess.  Those will come soon enough.

A very tired little girl.

Poor Lucy can't seem to get a break.  We are having heavy rains, having received three inches overnight with more predicted today and tomorrow.  And Lucy hates to go out in the rain. The snow will surely be totally gone by the end of the day.  We are having flash floods and some roads are closed.  Thank goodness our propane tank was refilled so the generator is ready to take over if we lose power again.

It has been quite a year for us, and for many others.  We are definitely ready to say good-bye to 2018 and hope for a better year in 2019.  That is my wish for us and for all of you.

The quote today comes from Alfred, Lord Tennyson:

"Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come
Whispering, "It will be happier."

Let us hope that these words are true and that we all have a happier New Year.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK
BEST WISHES FOR A GREAT NEW YEAR

Good to see Lucy getting some time outside. I'm sure she loves every moment of it. Lovely to see Violet with her new stuffed animals. Yes, it will be good to wave good bye to 2018. Not the best of years in any way. Really hoping 2019 will be happier in all ways. Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family.

Oh yes, the Disney characters are so cute and hard to resist! Glad Lucy is not having snow, for a while, to deal with. Yes, 2018 had a lot that we weren't happy about. So I turned that around and found that I at least got to see each of my sons at different times during the year...something I'm very grateful for.

Poor Lucy as it seems the weather is not her friend right now, but hopefully things will get better and the snow will melt or be washed away. I had to chuckle when reading about how Violet’s parents wanted to abolish Disney products from her life. A cousin and his wife wanted to do something similar in banning plastic toys from their son...that was short-lived as well. You are right that 2018 was eventful for many reasons and I am glad that yours is ending on happier times. Best wishes for the coming New Year to you and your family and Lucy too.

The Holidays are tiring for everyone after awhile!
Here's to Hope for 2019...there's no reason to stop wishing for something better, ever.

Poor Lucy. Either snow or rain--yikes--life is so hard. Thank goodness for a warm dry house. Callie doesn't do rain and only tolerates snow. I guess the Disney ban is over for Violet. She is such a cutie and hopefully she can be spared the princess craze for a while.

Josie was the same way -- absolutely overwhelmed. I kept her the day after and she had to pull out all her old familiar toys and read the familiar books. By Friday she was ready to give the new stuff a try.

Wow... Violet has the most amazing eyes. A natural beauty.
Sending all good wishes to you and your family for 2019 … may it be a healthy and uplifting year with, hopefully, changes for the better in our country.

Thankfully, the Disney princesses have been getting tougher of late.
With 3 granddaughters, we must watch whatever preferred movie...thus learning the words to "Let it Go" from Frozen. And at least recognizing quite a few other songs--e.g. from another updated princess--Moana.
Get ready.

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Robin - Yes, 2018 was not a good year for many reasons and we are hoping for a better 2019.

Barbara - Seeing family is the best, isn't it?

Beatrice - I understand about the plastic toys as well.

Nance - Good words to live by

Patti - Yes, but at least the princesses are doing more than waiting around to get rescued.

Vicki - That was exactly the way Violet was, taking comfort in old toys and books.

KB - Thanks.

Ginnie - I'm hoping the same.

Jan - Thanks, and the same to you

KG Mom - Nice to hear from you. Yes, the day will come.
