Lucy had a birthday on July 4th. It's hard to believe she is thirteen, fairly old for a Golden Retriever. She moves around a bit more slowly and her hearing may be a little decreased but she is generally a healthy dog and our veterinarian says she appears much younger than her years. She still has a lot of puppy foolishness and a real sense of humor. It seems she invariably chooses to lie down in the places most inconvenient for us. One of her favorite places is under the raised footrest of my husband's recliner. She loves to use his shoes as a makeshift pillow. Fortunately, we always look out for her and so far we haven't injured her.
Snoozing under the chair
Today's quote comes from George Bernard Shaw. Make of it what you will.
A government that robs Peter to pay Paul, can always depend on the support of Paul.
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE

Hello!! It's good to see your posts - I hope you received a previous comment that I left. There was a hiccup as I left it, and I wonder if blogger ate it, or sent it to the spam folder! :-)
I do hope you're doing well! Happy, happy 13th birthday to your girl Lucy, a true milestone and truly a reason to celebrate!!!
Take care and continued prayers and good vibes from my corner of VA!
Happy 13th birthday to Lucy! Our golden is at least a few months older, although we're not quite sure of his age since he was a rescue. He is not doing quite as well as your Lucy seems to be as his morning walks have gone down from two or three miles to half a mile, with stops along the way. One of our previous goldens used to lie wrapped around the rolling legs of my banker's chair that I use as an office chair. I had to be careful not to roll it an inch because I was sure to pull out some of his beautiful feathering if I did. Despite that happening more times than I would wish, he was never deterred.
Linda P. (For some reason, my Google account signs with "Unknown," and I haven't been able to change it.
My grey tortoiseshell cat, Marlowe, has always lain upon shoes as well! Maybe it's a Girl Thing? ;-)
I'm glad to hear that Lucy is still a happy youthful dog in her dotage.
In England, they use Golden Retrievers as guide dogs for the blind. Such gentle, beautiful creatures.
Love the photo of Lucy under the chair. My Dad's dog does the same thing, he has to very careful before he moves but you know he always is very careful for his dog, just like you guys! Happy birthday to Lucy.
I love knowing that Roger and Lucy share a birthday! She does look great for her age. Growing up in a home of love will do that. Happy birthday to Lucy!
She sure is beautiful, and I'm glad you have her in your lives. Caring for and about each other are what life is all about these days.
Dear old girl, she is a beauty.
I cannot see a Golden Retriever without thinking of you.
Happy Birthday Lucy. You don't look a day over 7. I'm sure her great health you can take a lot of the credit for. She does like to rest her head on something and if it smells like Dad, all the better.
I'm surprised to learn that she's that old. Goldens are such fine dogs -- and I know she has an extra-good life with you all.
Happy birthday to Lucy! I'm glad she still has some puppy foolishness :)
Happy belated Birthday to Lucy and it was nice to see her featured once again on a blog post. She was missed as you were as well. Thanks too for your recent comments on my blog posts about our (continuing) cross country road trip. It has been such a wonderful adventure even though it's impossible to see all the beauty and interesting places in the USA on a single trip. I have fallen behind in blog reading because of our travels and trying to keep up with posting about our adventures which have fallen behind where we actually are now. I hope to return to blog reading on a more frequent basis. Glad to see the sweet photo of your granddaughter Violet and her adopted aunt.
We love Lucy too! I love hearing that she still has puppy foolishness. Certainly, lying under the foot rest and on your husband's shoes is an act of both foolishness and love.
Why does Peter keep supporting said government? That's the part that blows my mind.
Our Lily does the same thing. At night this poses a danger to those getting up to visit the bathroom. After much ado we've learned to turn on the light....:)
She's a funny girl; who else likes the smell of someone else's foot?
Happy birthday to her. Cocoa will be 13 in September; my girlfriend said I should have a bat mitzvah for her. LOL!!
Sweet Lucy, what a lovely photograph.
All the best Jan
Thank you all for your comments. I mentioned each of you individually twice but could not post. Thanks anyway.
