LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

We Love Lucy

Halloween is over and we're marching forward to Thanksgiving.  Our weather this week has been rain, mist, and drizzle with very brief glimpses of the sun.  If there is sun, Lucy will find it and enjoy it for the time it stays.

For a dog who loves pillows, she also loves to rest with her head lower than her body.
Perhaps in this case it is to get more of herself in the bright sunlight.

Most areas of our country held various elections on Tuesday.  We live well outside the city limits and there were no county-wide or state-wide elections for us this year.  I always watch the "off" year elections keenly since they frequently give us a glimpse into the future.  And unfortunately, it does not look all that bright.  We are getting a bit of fatigue associated with the upcoming Presidential election process.  I do not recall such vitriolic rhetoric from people who would be President in my life.  I've seen many elections so I know about the half truths and power of negative advertisements.  But usually the candidates themselves do not shout offensive slogans...they let their PACs do the dirty work.  [And once again we thank SCOTUS for the Citizen's United decision.]

Sadly, the path to the White House this year will get even uglier.  I shudder to think what foreign leaders think when they hear some of the outrageous statements from some of the candidates.  I fear they are both laughing at us and preparing to be our enemies.

Autumn days are waning rapidly now.  We've lost most of the leaves with the rain and wind and the mountains are looking more and more like winter.  It has been a wonderful Autumn and we have enjoyed it.

Our quote today comes from Chinese poet Lin Yutang:

"I like spring, but it is too young.  I like summer, but it is too proud.

So I like best of all autumn, because its tone is mellower, its colours are richer, and it is tinged with a little sorrow.

Its golden richness speaks not of the innocence of spring, nor the power of summer, but of the mellowness and kindly wisdom of approaching age.

It knows the limitations of life and its content."

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!

What a sad political forecast to go with the weather. And unfortunately I have to totally agree with it....:(

I think I feel like Autumn, kindly wisdom of approaching age and I know the limitations of life and its content. (and how quickly time, like Autumn, passes)

I love the quote.........I am sure it was written for me.

The world is changing...........I am happy to be the age I am. I worry for future generations.

I love Lucy........she looks content sleeping in the sunshine.

Ah, Lucy and I have a lot in common, I like to have as much of myself in the sun as I can get!
This is a crazy political season. I've never seen anything like it. I wish we could get big money out of politics and not start the actual race until the year the election is being held. This onslaught is maddening.
I am grateful for the peace of autumn.

We too are outside the city limits so no voting for us. Heaven knows what the year ahead will look like.

I voted on Tuesday. Won some, lost some... And that's the way it goes. I really hope that on the Republican side of things all of these crazy people clear out in time for their "real" candidate. Not that I want a Republican president, but it would be nice to watch grown-ups run. Sigh.

The quote is lovely and the politics are ugly. Ugh.
I'm looking at two dogs (yes, two!) that have their heads OFF their beds right now. It must feel nice?!
I hope your weekend is wonderful.

The quote is absolutely beautiful. Autumn is always tinged with sadness, for what has passed and is now in the past.

I'm glad that Lucy "legally" finds her sunshine. Our R, at age 8, has suddenly started sneaking onto the sofa when there's a sun puddle on it. He's a character, just like your Lucy with her crazy head positions.

The crazy things being said by some candidates are only useful as fodder for comedians. It is embarrassing. I hope that the standards rise as the number of candidates decreases.

Lucy is very catlike with her devotion to sunbeams.

Thank you for sharing that Autumn quote. I had never seen it before, and I like it very much. In NEO--Northeast Ohio--we are now past peak and recent winds have mostly stripped the last of the truly vivid trees. Early November was quite warm, however, and I truly gloried in this beautiful Fall.

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Troutbirder - Yes, true and sad

Mrs. A - 'Tis a wise woman indeed who knows the limitations of life. I hope everyone learns that.

Cheryl - So often my husband and I verbalize the same thing.

KB - We have so many windows there is always a sun puddle on the floor somewhere if the sun is shining.

Nance - It's very much like winter here today. Not above 40 here on the mountain today with rain and wind.
