As regular readers know, we live in Transylvania County, so named because the mountains and trees reminded folks of Transylvania, Romania. Perhaps because of the county name, our town goes all out for Halloween celebrations. There are couple of streets downtown so popular with trick or treaters that merchants put out collection boxes for donations to help the residents supply treats for all the little ones brought to their streets for the fun.
Halloweenfest draws us downtown every year. It is so much fun to see all the costumes and visit the street vendors. Several blocks of the intersecting main streets are barricaded for the festivities and it has a wonderful small-town flavor, the sights and smells of Halloween.
One of our flags we see as we leave our driveway
The day was unseasonably chilly. Sales of handmade scarves were high
I loved the little farmer and his John Deere tractor.
He did not let go of his little brother's hand the entire time we saw them
A fantastic Audrey at a booth selling plants
The display in front of our toy store, O.P. Taylor's
A quick visit to our Farmers Market completes our outing.
It goes without saying that I took far too many photographs of people in costume, the musicians, and the festivities. I can't imagine going back from digital to film.
It's chilly and dreary here with more rain stripping the remaining leaves from the trees. By the end of the week it will look more like early winter around here. Our rivers are high and we are under a flash flood warning as is most of Western NC and Upstate SC. I'm glad the trees are getting a drink but I'm ready for the sun to return.

Looks like a wonderful Halloween celebration there. Always so nice when the town puts on a festival like this for the kids. We gave out candy for the first time in years. The kids were adorable in their costumes and the sound of their "Trick or Treat" whenever we opened the door was really pretty sweet.
I love your town! That's a great Audrey II, truly...made me laugh. The kids we saw were adorable. My favorites were a young Harry Potter boy and a young astronaut girl! Not many people on our street participate anymore, but I do my best each year...the kids are worth th effort and expense and the parents who accompany them are truly grateful.
I love your flag!! I think I might need one :)
Why in the world did you hold back on the photos? You know everyone love them!
Weather was lousy here, but it slacked enough that we had a good number of kids.
Now I know where I want to be next Halloween! Of course staying at home at a senior complex meant nary a kid...but I think there were some dogs dressed up in town somewhere.
The brothers holding hands and dressed for the part are so sweet. It is always the children that make these events :)
It looks such a pretty town.............I love a farmers market.
We have spring like conditions at the moment. I have been gardening in the sunshine.........seems so strange for this time of year.
What a fine celebration! Love the little brothers!
Oh those brothers are so sweet ...
This looks such a fun celebration, and a Farmers Market too! I love looking around Farmers Markets.
Best Wishes for a Happy November
All the best Jan
I had no idea how your county got it's name; interesting.
I think you're getting to enjoy all the lovely things about living in a small town; fantastic stuff!!
The little farmer looks like a wonderful big brother. What fun your area has for Halloween!!! I hope that the sun is shining tomorrow for you!
Definitely a fun outing. Watching the little kids all dress up for the occasion would certainly get me to go on a digital binge...:)
What fun. Maybe next year I will get some friends and head up your way. I think I am about 4 hours away. I was in Charleston, SC on Halloween day and my kids all took the Cemetery Tour ... too strenuous for me.
I love your pictures and especially the sweet little brothers.
This looks like such fun for the whole town!
Really, your local Chamber of Commerce should put you on retainer.
Thanks for your comments, everyone.
Robin - It's been a while since we had trick or treaters and I do miss them.
Linthead - I'm with you. We used to have kids from outside our neighborhood and I tried to give them extra special treats.
Bug - My husband is in charge of the flags and he really has quite a selection for all occasions.

Barbara - I do love seeing the kids in their costumes
Cheryl - So glad you have a bit more sun and nice weather.
