Internet Birthday
Yahoo! was begun twenty years ago today. Only a few would have dreamed how much that would change our daily lives. Yahoo brought everyman to the Internet.
In addition to new ways of thinking, the Internet brought us new words and usage of other words. It brought us the word "blog," near and dear to all our hearts. It is the shortened form of the original word, "weblog." Who would have thought that "friend" would be a verb and "like" would be a noun? There have been "selfies" as long as there have been cameras, but the word was never used before the Internet and smartphones. And while most of us grew up with Hi-Fi, few of us started out with Wi-Fi. "Texting" and "Sexting" were words not used only 20 years ago. And "tweets" were the sounds of birds chirping.
Yahoo is older than Facebook, even older than MySpace. It's older than YouTube, Tumbler, and Instagram.
So a great big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Yahoo! And to the changes that have evolved in those twenty years.

A wonderful tribute to Yahoo, and to the incredible new world we now inhabit. My life has been utterly enriched by blogging and online friends. I never thought I could feel so close to people I've never met in person, and yet the heart opens and embraces in this new way. I've never tweeted, but I have learned how to clumsily push my way into texting every once in a long while. I wonder what's next!
Happy Birthday Yahoo. The internet has opened my world and I now visit or am visited by people from many states and countries. It has a few problems but all in all it has been a blessing.
Happy Birthday Yahoo! My kids were on the Yahoo bandwagon at the start... I came on a decade after them and sure glad I did!
It's amazing for me to think how much the world has changed since my mom died more than 26 years ago. I don't think that she'd recognize many everyday aspects of our world now (laptop computers, iPads, Kindles, cell phones, smart phones). Incredible.
Happy Birthday, Yahoo!
Wow! The Internet sure has changed our lives. What would we do without our computers? We depend upon them everyday. Interesting information about the Internet.
It's amazing how much has changed -- I wonder if anyone expected so many of us older folks to take to blogging as much as we have.
oh gosh...how time passes! yes, we are completely changed by this medium. that I get to play with my grandson on a computer, in real time, is a mind-blower.
