On a sunny warm day, Violet and her daddy did some outdoor Halloween decorating. She helped to carry some short logs to form a boundary. Then her daddy placed the stones and concrete pieces. Violet has no idea what "PET SEMATARY" means and she doesn't need to know. What she does know is that she and her daddy had lots of fun working together on a projet that other people like.
Violet admires the results of their work
Like most nearly two-and-a-half-year olds, Violet has definite opinions about any number of things. These opinions can lead to conflict which sometimes lead to pouting or even "meltdowns." Early one chilly morning Violet and her daddy disagreed on whether or not it was all right for Violet to go outside to play while still in her jammies and without a coat. She thought it was a good idea but her daddy disagreed. On this occasion, Violet sat against the door and argued her position like an attorney in court.
"It's like this, Daddy..."
And there are countless times when a toddler decides to comply with a request in his or her own way. Her father wanted a video to show Violet counting to ten. She usually pronounces each number well, even the often difficult "three." While not technically refusing, Violet makes it clear she does not want to do this. She popped a crouton in her mouth for good measure and then she counted to ten in a most disinterested way.
This week one of my heroes died. He was a marvelous human being with a life well lived, even though it was done too soon. So it is fitting that today's quote is from Elijah Cummings:
"Our children are the living messengers we send to a future we will never see.
Will we rob them of their destiny?
Will we rob them of their dreams?
NO! We will not do that."
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK, EVERYONE
HELP OTHERS

Violet has a quite a presence. I saw a young child the other day and I was thinking, "who does she remind me of...mmmm?" Then I realized that she reminded me of your beautiful Violet! Love the quote and sad about such a loss in these times.
She gotta love her determination when she KNOWS what she wants.
I love that your Son shares all the good (and sometimes challenging) parts of Violets days with you; it must be hard not being closer.
Wishing you a lovely weekend.
She is growing up so fast. That first picture made me realize just how much. Hey a lawyer is not a bad goal.
Was sad about Elijah Cummings. He was taken too soon and we needed his voice.
oh yes, the ups and downs of a two and a half year old! Quite a daily roller coaster ride. I love the way she said "Five" especially. They don't really 'get' Halloween yet, but my 8 y.o. grandson is in skeleton and jack-o-lanter and spider web heaven. He helped decorate their yard at LEAST two weeks ago -- he insisted! I'll be Violet is really going to be an enthusiastic participant as the years go by.
I love the EC quote. I actually cried when I heard he had died. We need him so much now, and he was too young to go. I hope his example and his many many excellent quotes will sustain us during this turbulent time.
That video is fabulous, but I especially love “attorney Violet” - she’s such a hoot.
I was also really sad about Mr. Cummings. It feels like such a loss.
So darling! That two and a half year attitude is so familiar.
Yes I too will miss Elijah Cummings. I had no idea that he was so young. His brilliance and demeanor spoke of an older statesman … and we few statesmen, now or in the past who can live up to him. I loved the empathy that he showed to Michael Cohen when Trump called him a rat. He knew from his upbringing how degrading that word was and that only mobsters knew to use it.
Violet--Pink Floyd sweatshirt and all--is truly a treasure. She has an independent personality and a lot of character.
Much the same can be said of Congressman Cummings, at whose death I gasped audibly when I heard of it. I felt a sense of deep loss for our country, especially now.
Maybe in a more years, many more, Violet’s daddy will explain pet semetary to her. She does have a mind of her own as we are learning through her grandmother’s posts. The counting video was a cute one. The world is less well off with the passing of Senator Elijah Cummings..
Thanks for your comments, everyone.
Robin - Thanks
Suz - Yes, she knew all right. She had previously been counting so well our son decided to get it on video and this is what he got. Not at all what he espected. Yes, it is hard to live so far away.
Patti - Yes, she is growing up faf too fast like all little children.
Tara -If she is anything like our son, she will love Halloween. He has loved it since he was three and was totally surprised that people opened their doors and put candy in his little pumpkin.
Bug - She gets quite serious at times. And it's hard not to laugh.
Vicki - Yes, Violet and Josie are showing independent thinking, aren't they?
Ginnie - It was sad that he was so hurt by Trump's evil words about his people.
Nance - She is exerting her personality for sure.
Beatrice - We won't see the likes of Cummings again for quite a while.
