It's already the end of May. As Dr. Seuss said, "How did it get so late so soon?" Our lives change quite a bit when June arrives. We are after all, a tourist town. And we are near so many wonderful natural attractions, including two State Forests and a National Forest, perfect for hiking, camping, and picnicking. Our county is home to more than 20 summer camps for children and when the schools empty the camps fill up. Those of us who live here year round learn to be patient behind the camp buses, the cyclists, and the sightseeing tourists. We stay in our own communities during the weekends. We entertain guests who visit us. And we enjoy good wine and good conversation with neighbors. Yes, summer in the mountains is good.
Lucy enjoys summer but only in the early hours of morning and the later evening hours when it is cooler. She loves running free whenever possible. And she loves just hanging out in the yard while we sit under the trees. However, she definitely does not love the camera. She feels much more comfortable when the camera is out of sight.
I'm not at all sure what has her attention, but it clearly is not me.
As the sun fades and the good lighting is gone, she gives me a rather disgruntled look.
Not a smile in sight.
My daughter says if the police ever need a Lucy mugshot, this would be the one.

Our thoughts go out this week to those who are suffering from the effects of wars, famine, and severe weather. So many are troubled and in pain. Please help them in whatever way you can.
Today's quote is from George Eliot:
"It's never too late to be what you might have been."
HAVE A SAFE AND WONDERFUL WEEKEND EVERYONE

I must admit that I had little patience for the visitors when I lived in the mountains - but that was mostly because I was either headed to work or headed home.
We got barked at by a goldie yesterday - made me think of Lucy :)
The second great George Eliot quote I've seen today, and so true! Ah...Catawba Rhododendron season is approaching! Hope it's a beautiful one. We have enjoyed our visit to the Piedmont. Now back to our Ohio for summer. Funny, that guard dog yesterday was a bit camera shy, too.
Lucy is a beautiful dog. It's great living in the mountains, but summer brings a lot of traffic and crowds. Good thing you have a lot of activities in your community.
Ah, lovely quote. It's too late for me to be a child prodigy, however, so much else is still on the table.
Lucy has quite the mug on her. I'll bet her rap sheet is long. She looks dangerous.
I, too, think often of all the people in the world who are so desperate and need help. Just last night on the CBS news, a profile of a single mom in Baltimore who, when younger, stole checks and was convicted of a felony. She learned the error of her ways, knows that she only did it because she was out of everything and was clinging by her fingernails. Now because of her felony conviction she cannot get a job, and lives hand to mouth making her own clothing. Her young son wants to leave the troubled neighborhood they live in, but they are trapped. What to do?
Thanks for a lovely post of your darling dog. Our touristy summers here in the mountains do take extra patience. Fortunately I can work on calm mind and deep breaths, and say I really am in no hurry. I would rather just get there, and perhaps even enjoy myself on the ride.
Always so glad to see your beautiful Lucy, even if she is camera-shy. Her cuteness shines through. The ups and downs of summer are upon us. Many people come to this part of the coast to hike in the redwoods. It's a different kind of tourism than the beach in Capitola. Now that was a tourism to be avoided!
The tourists don't have much impact on us, here in the wilds of Madison County. Anyway, I don't get out much -- too busy in the garden.
I can only imagine how touristy it's about to get for you! I'm with Lucy, I'm not much for the heat of the day, although Carolina heat is a little different than my part of Texas. Yours was always a tad more tolerable and the cool Carolina evenings... HEAVENLY!
Seems I have always lived in a tourist town either in Florida or Arkansas and that has never bothered me though if I had my druthers, Arkansas wins hands down. I enjoy the influx of diversity and activity and since patience is my only virtue, all is good.
Love that look Lucy gave you. She really doesn't like the camera.
Here in the UK we have family who live on the South Coast and it's lovely to visit, but of course it does get busier during the warmer summer months.
Just love those pictures of Lucy ...
Hope the weekend is going well.
All the best Jan
I love the mug shot!!!!!! We "suffer" from similar things, being a popular summer attraction. I mostly handle it well, except for the gun slingers. They really get to me.
Lucy is just so beautiful......I love the face........love the look :)
Indeed so much suffering.......so sad.
Thanks for your comments, everyone.
Thanks for stopping by. Love to see how Lucy is doing. Have you walked the Warren Wilson College trail - flat and it follows a creek - many bring their dogs. I will post this week about it.
