LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

We Love Lucy

While Lucy definitely loves to have a pillow, she often snoozes with her head up.  Like a nodding toddler, she briefly awakens when her head drops.  Then she falls back to snoozing in the bright sunshine.

She has another "hot spot" that mandated a trip to the veterinarian this week.  We caught it early which is a good thing because these areas can spread very quickly.  Surprised that she had a hot spot in mid-winter, my husband asked our vet if this is common.  He replied, "It's always hot spot season for Golden Retrievers."  So she is on antibiotics which means she gets special little sandwiches with Laughing Cow cheese spread to obscure the pills.  Fortunately she tends to leave the areas alone so she doesn't have to wear a cone.  And they begin to heal almost immediately with the antibiotics and steroid sprays.

Please stop calling it a cat nap, Mom.

After several days of cooler than normal temperatures we are expecting some amazing days this weekend.  Might get into the 60s with sunshine.  Oh, I am so looking forward to Spring.

Author Barbara Kingsolver has this to say about dogs:
"A dog can't think that much about what he is doing.
He just does what feels right."

We should do the same.  We always know if it feels right.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE

Just a reminder... they flox our pets, too. Hoping they don't give her a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. Very dangerous.

Veterinary Fluoroquinolones:

Advocin, Advocid (danofloxacin)
Baytril (enrofloxacin)
Dicural, Vetequinon (difloxacin)
Floxasol, Saraflox, Sarafin (sarafloxacin)
Ibaflin (ibafloxacin)
Marbocy, Zeniquin (marbofloxacin)
Orbax, Victas (orbifloxacin)

we can learn alot from our animals...if we only listen.

Our Boo has a new hot spot, just detected this morning. He tends to get them now and then, being a Golden, but they don't spread if we just keep it clean. We watching this new one...perhaps a vet visit is in the offing.

Happy Weekend to you and yours!

Good think you are on top of her hot spots and can get them taken care of early. She is a lucky dog.

We have to agree with your vet, it is always hot spot season for us goldens. Mom tries to catch them early and treat them with some diluted organic apple cider vinegar. Good luck!

Cat nap - snicker!

How do you get her to take heart worm pills? This last batch of Scout's are HUGE and can't be disguised. I don't know that I could have crammed it down her throat. I suppose it was supposed to be chewable, but she didn't agree.

I hope that the hot spot heals up quickly. I wish I understood Ms. A's comment... but I don't know what "floxing" is!

Enjoy those spring-like days and do what feels right!

Lucy is lucky to have such a caring family. All doggies should be so lucky. Enjoy the warm temps and sunshine!

The Bug tends to nod off in the sun, too...especially on road trips.

I hope the picture on the heading of your blog is the view that you have. Lovely.

Just found your blog from Vicki Lane's blog -- got excited when I noticed you live in Brevard. It is my favorite town ever! I lived there much too briefly and hope to retire there eventually. Best wishes!

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Ms. A - No fluoroqinolone for Lucy. We do watch for it.

Miley - We may try dilute cider vinegar at the first sign next time.

Mary Lee - There are several brands of heartworm preventative. I'd try another one that perhaps she might like.

KB - "Floxing" refers to prescribing the fluoroqinolone antibiotics which have been linked to some very serious side effects. While the side effects are not common, they can be devastating.

Vicki - We now have a Tractor Supply here in town. I'll definitely check out Jude's Hot Spot medication. I'm not too keen on antibiotics and if we can't see our regular vet, they always seem to order them.

Susan - Welcome. I checked out your wonderful blog. I think the activities we have here would definitely be to your liking.

Suz - It was indeed lovely, warm and sunny.

I'm wishing spring would hold off just a bit longer - we are already having days in the mid 80's here in AZ. I'm not looking forward to the summer.

Lucy tries not to miss anything - that's why she doesn't want to put her head down! I used vinegar on my Golden if I saw a problem area. Or, sometimes tea tree oil.
