Raining in the Mountains

Transylvania County averages more rain per year than any other county in NC.  In fact, parts of our county are designed as temperate rain forests.  We average nearly 80 inches of rain annually, even more in parts of the county.  We do have years of drought, but this year our rainfall is a bit above average.  For the past week we have had rain showers almost every afternoon.  They are scattered showers and come in bursts, leaving high humidity behind.  The rivers are up and the forests are lush with green.

"The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain."
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

We have  a sunflower that blooms all year long.  Even in the rain.  It is a medallion made for us by one of our WI neighbors.  She is a periodontist and stained glass work is one of her hobbies.  She finds it relaxing and it helps maintain manual dexterity she needs for her occupation.  We find it beautiful and welcome especially on rainy days.

 The perpetually blooming flower

Wherever you are, I hope you are getting just the right amount of rain.  As the poet said, "let it rain."

Here in California, we are in the third year of a drought. The forests are dangerously dry, for so early in the summer season. You are lucky to have so much rainfall there.

Your quote from Longfellow is very appropriate for the weather here on the shores of Lake Michigan these last weeks. Enough already! Jack

Henry has it right. I never complain about rain having been in too many droughts. Somethings like water, money can't buy.

When I visit my friend Aleen in Cedar Mountain, I'm always amazed at the lushess there. We have had a bit of rain here near Marshall but would love to have several rainy days.

Ha...can't join in on this one, I have seen enough rain to last me a lifetime :) I am glad you are enjoying the showers and that the garden and surrounding area are being served well.

Lovely sunflower....made me smile.

We've been getting LOTS of rain, with some flash flooding. In our little world though it's been just the right amount.

Just yesterday we were hoping that we will have another volunteer sunflower like we've had for the last two years :)

Hi there, I didn't realize that your got so much rain. I enjoy rain a bit, usually in the winter or an afternoon shower is fine but I couldn't live in a rainy climate. Your garden does look lush and green. Love the stained glass-it is such a work of art and I know brings smiles to your face when the weather is cold.
Hugs today.

the rains I have loved the most are the afternoon rains in the Hawaiian Islands. They clean the air, allow one to go inside and nap or read, and then they are gone, leaving the world ready to take on the humans once more.

Your daily rains are similar to ours….I never leave home without an umbrella or two.
LOVE the sunflower art; lovely!

We do not get daily rainfall here on the VA eastern shore, but often when it does rain it's either spread over several days, a little each day, or a day of torrential downpours. Wish we could send some rainfall to folks needing it in other states.

Your schedule of rain sounds a lot like ours - every afternoon! It's called the "monsoon" here, and it keeps away the fires. I hope it does the same for you!
