LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Enjoying the View
Our house does not have a view of the distant mountains. We have a lake view only in winter if we look out the top floor and stand on tiptoe. (In other words, we don't have a lake view either.) But what we do have is the forest, coming right up to the deck and porch. We have our bird feeders overhanging the deck and bird boxes in the trees. And we have birds galore, nesting in our trees and coming to our feeders.
I sit on the deck a lot. To read or to watch the birds. And every now and then I see the birds feeding their little ones. And what a treat that is.
The Downy Woodpeckers are our first woodpeckers to fledge and come near the feeders to be fed. Soon they will be followed by the Red-bellied Woodpeckers and then the Pileated Woodpeckers. We haven't seen our Hairy Woodpeckers for two years since the tree with their cavity blew over in a storm. I hope they will come back.
So no matter how frustrated I become with politics or life in general I can always get a respite on the deck. And for a while, all's right with the world.

I understand, nature restores us.
I love your woodpeckers. I have a juvenile with Mum feeding on the fat balls at the moment. They are a pleasure to observe.
How lovely the woods comes to your deck....you are truly blessed to live in such a lovely place :)

I think that is why I enjoy camping so much! We go to a state park and just sitting outside, enjoying nature and simply, God's creation, you sort of forget what's going on around you. I love it!
Amazing how your deck view offers me respite as well. Thank you for that. Love those beautiful young downys.
Your house and deck sound a lot like ours. No long distance views but we are *in* the forest. Like you, the deck is my place of respite and peace. I adore watching the animals out there. I love your Downy photo - we don't seem to have any fledglings yet although we do have downies here.
ME TOO----I love nature and just sitting and watching the birds. We have almost the same ones here. We also had a Downy and one of the young ones at our suet feeder recently...
Right now we are having visits from some gorgeous Red-headed Woodpeckers--so I can't wait to see their little ones.
Hope life is good in one of my favorite areas of the country...
Hugs,
Betsy
If I were you, I'd camp out there. :) Lovely views with no stress.
You always have "a view" when you can sit on your deck and contemplate the beauties around you.
Exactly. I do the same though we don't have pileated. And though I like to read on the deck its so easy to be distracted with all the birds....:)_
Thanks for your comments, everyone.
Betsy - I am jealous that you have Red-headed Woodpeckers. They are my favorite and we don't have any for some reason.
Troutbirder - Yes, I get distracted as well.
It sounds beautiful on your deck. We enjoy the birds, too. This is my first visit to your blog. Love your header photo.
Your view sounds like heaven to me...
