Today we commemorate the life and works of Martin Luther King. Let us all pledge to keep his dream alive. We are not there yet, but let us move forward.
In his words, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter."
That is one of my favorite quotes from him. It applies to each of us, every single day.
I briefly lived in Maryland as a young girl, well after "integration" of schools. In 1st grade, I rapidly became close friends with an African American girl. Can you believe that my teacher thought that me being best friends with a black girl was so unnerving that she called my parents about it? Fortunately, my parents didn't accept her racism whatsoever (and told her so), and I learned an important lesson about standing up for what you believe.
I thought you might find that snippet interesting, especially given the quote you chose.
It is always a joy to come to your blog--I never know if your titles will be a personal story or your wonderful musings on local, national or universal issues. We can never be reminded too many times about the eternal legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

His words are true today, different issues sometimes, different protestors, same feelings and needs. I posted similarly yesterday.
