LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays Are Golden

And so it goes.  We continue to have daily rain, almost three inches again in the past 24 hours.  The constant rains and swollen rivers have profoundly affected our tourist industry.  The rafting, kayaking, and tubing companies cannot put people on the flooded fast-moving streams during this, their otherwise busiest season.  Tomatoes are rotting on the vines.  Corn stalks are knee deep in water.  Slides have closed several roads and houses are being undermined and threaten to come crashing down hillsides in some areas.

So I should not complain because we are truly very little affected by all the rain.  Just more and more dog towels to wash.

Lucy is bored.  Her bed is wet because she just ate an ice cube.

She looks out the dining room window.

Still raining

Ellie doesn't even look out the window.

It's too depressing.

I'm reminded of Longfellow who said that "Thy fate is the common fate of all;  into each life some rain must fall."

Today's quote is from Marcel Proust:
"Let's be grateful for those who give us happiness; they are the charming gardeners who make our souls bloom."

WHATEVER YOUR WEATHER, HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND AND GIVE SOME HAPPINESS.

Hi there, Hope your rain stops soon. We are headed to the mountains to go camping but thunder storms, high winds and rain in the forecast so we might be back tomorrow. If we had an RV, I wouldn't mind but when you are in a tent, it isn't fun at all.
Have a good, dry weekend.
Hugs, Noreen

Just wish the weather would find a happy medium between drought and flood. I know a lot of people don't believe in global warming, but these drastic patterns confirm it for me. Hope you get some relief and some sunshiny days soon.

I really feel for my NC people - we've had a lot of rain too, but not NEARLY as much as you guys!

Feast, or famine. You have too much rain and we need to have a little of it. Here's to you having some sunshine and for us to have some clouds roll in... not too much, though and certainly no hurricanes, or tropical storms!

Poor Lucy and Ellie...it is depressing. Hope your skies clear and things dry out. Tough times throughout the southern Appalachians :-(

I sort of feel the same way that your golden girls feel about rain!! I'm very tired of it!

Those days of rain must be depressing. The girls look sleepy... I hope it ends soon. Perhaps you could send some our way :)

Wow, that must be hard on the girls. I know when it rains here, Mighty would burst a bladder if I didn't have a carport he could go in.
The weather extremes are mind boggling. I tend to forget that excess water is no better for crops than too dry of conditions.
You are under water and the west is on fire or sitting through suffocating dust storms. Where I am is fairly neutral if leaning towards the dry side. A weird Summer to go with the rest of the year.

Being trapped inside due to all the rain is no fun for man nor beast...;)

Oh the rain. *sigh* I was just about to leave for errands and it started pouring. Again.
So glad you and yours are safe and sound.
Have a great weekend!

Our state has really been saturated hasn't it? But, like you, I feel I have little to complain about when I compare what others are going through.
One good thing, here in the Sandhills, is that it's been cool, just in the hugh 70's for a few days.
PS: your "ladies" have the right idea...sleep through it all !

We've also had a lot of rain, but I don't complain about it either, and I always keep in mind that it's good for our well. The dogs do love the rain, because it brings up the good smells and some of the not so good ones too! :-)

Finally, many thanks for your very timely comment on my blog. You are right, it does and did help to be reminded that the best you can do is the best you can do and sometimes things are truly out of our hands, and what is to come for Cissy, may just be something I cannot change--but of course I hope that it is.

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

NanaNor - We camped in tents when our children were young. (Heavy complex canvas tents with all those poles.) I'm not sure I'm up to tent camping anymore. Good luck.
