LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

The girls have been pretty bored this week. We've had intermittent thunderstorms, and the weather has been hot and humid. Our walks have been in the early mornings and late evenings with only brief potty breaks in between.

My husband does most of the dog walking, but Wednesdays are my responsibility. Every Wednesday, my husband does hard labor volunteering to repair trails, dig trenches, and build bridges in Pisgah National Forest. He comes home exhausted, sweaty and filthy and very, very happy.

This past Wednesday morning the girls and I got caught in a downpour! When we were about half a mile from our house, it started pouring rain...not a light misty rain...a real downpour of those giant drops. Wearing no jacket, I was absolutely drenched when I got home. I arrived home dripping wet with two equally wet Golden Retrievers. Breakfast always follows the morning walk and the girls were not happy that I took the time to change into dry clothing before feeding them.

With the weather and our busy schedules, the girls have spent most days doing what they do best...just hanging around in the air conditioning.

As soon as Ellie decides where to lie, Lucy immediately squeezes herself in and uses Ellie for a pillow. I don't think Ellie likes it, but she never challenges Lucy and rarely gets up and moves. It is never Ellie who lies down next to Lucy.

I think they both look incredibly bored in this photograph and I often wonder just what they are thinking.

Ellie was not around to use for a pillow, so Lucy used the rung of a hard chair. I can't believe that could be comfortable.

We would probably all do well to follow Lucy's example...make yourself comfortable using whatever you have available.
I hope this is a great weekend for you. Summer is speeding past despite our best efforts to slow it down. Make the most of the weekends we have remaining.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend, full of love and joy.

Not only summer speeding by, to me it seems like time just moves too quickly - all of the time!

I often wonder the same thing, what are they thinking? I would love to be able to read their minds. :)
Your girls are beautiful as always. I just love seeing Lucy using Ellie as a pillow.

Always love getting my Golden fix on Fridays.

While sometimes I really want to know what they are thinking, there are certainly other times when I think that could scare me.

Ellie and Lucy both look content - even though Ellie does seem a little squished!

The chair rail headrest must be a Dichi thing, George does it all the time. Love those pics

Another great Golden Friday. The weather hasn't been good here, either, but we did catch a break today and were able to go out on a walk in the woods. I can't imagine getting caught in a downpour - that must have been awful!

I'm going to take their example and have a little lie down if my phone allows. Here's hoping for a silent hospice night.

Hey Carolyn, nothing like getting caught in a mountain rain shower huh? Came for my Friday fix and feel better now! I think Ellie looks so sad in the bored pic!I bet they can't wait for fall even if you are trying to slow it down! HA! :)

Ellie may not like it, but I'll bet she knows she's loved. Such sweet pictures.

Lucy is so funny....i had a golden that used misc things for a headrest....i just love how she lays on Ellie....and how sweet E is to let her! if only we knew what they were thinking....(would make my job easier!) but i have to rely on vitals and subtle changes, or in some animals not so subtle, in body language ....enjoy the wknd!

Im definitly a follower of the laid back attitude on hot, humid and rainy days. My pup goes crazy though without any real exercise. The golden girls seem to handle it ok.

My husband was dragged his feet too long--I now want not just one dog, but two. They are company for each other, even if Lucy is a little pushy. Your girls always make me smile.

PS. Someone sent me a link to a knitted dog poop pattern today, in case you want to make some unusual stocking stuffers.

I had to smile when you talked of the heavy rain. The same thing happened to me last week.....a drowned rat would have looked more attractive. Thankfully terriers dry quickly.......their waterproof coats rarely get that wet....

They do look so bored in the photograph....do dogs think? I am not sure but their facial expressions certainly say more than words ever can.....

I must say I do like seasonal change....I become bored at the end of each season....tired of the same style of clothing....tired of the same thing in the garden and the surrounding countryside...

I am looking forward to autumn now ( and I know you do not want to hear that so I am whispering).....

My dog gets bored too on rainy days. I don't understand how your dogs stay so clean!

Hi Carolyn, We're back from our trip --and I'm trying to catch up on the blogs. We had a great trip--and I had a wonderful birthday.

Sorry you got caught out in the rain... Those pop-up thunderstorms can surprise us, can't they??? We're hot and humid here--but by Wed., a front finally comes through.

I love that BRP drive also... That entire road from Brevard to the parkway is gorgeous also--with all of the Rhodies and Laurels. I would love to stay at that lodge at Mt. Pisgah sometime!!!!!

Hope you are still feeling great.
Hugs,
Betsy

Your girls are beautiful and I love how they love each other.

Getting caught in the rain sounds almost fun and refreshing (we're having 100 degree temps today, so that would feel really good)! Don't you love how soft the dogs coats feel after they've been drenched with rain water?

Enjoy your day!
