LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

It was a lovely autumn afternoon. Not a cloud in the "Carolina Blue" sky. And it had been such a long time since our dogs, Ellie and Lucy, had been allowed to run free except on our property. As if with a single mind, my husband and I each said, "It sure would be a great day to take the girls on a trail."

They had already been for a long walk, so perhaps they wouldn't run so hard. We drove down to one of our lakes. The girls had never been there before. The trees were so lovely with lots of golden on this golden afternoon.

The girls were very excited to be in a new place. They ran onto the dock, then back to us, then back and forth. We got on the trail that leads around the lake. I think the smile on their faces says everything you need to know about the little trip.

Fridays have always been golden for me. It always signalled a respite from a high-pressure job. In retirement, we still enjoy the weekends. We hang around the community. And have our usual New York Strip steaks on the grill. And, we enjoy our Golden Girls!

Here's hoping you all have a wonderful weekend. Get outdoors as much as you can and relish these autumn days.

Oh your last paragraph brought back such memories for this former meat-eater! I used to love autumn weekends spent outside by the grill, with the NY strips or ribeyes on there.... sigh.

Enjoy!

Looks like the dogs enjoyed the autumn colors as much as you did.

Someone asked me recently what my favorite day of the week is. Most people reply Saturday or Sunday. Mine is Friday! It's the end of the workweek and there's lots to look forward to during the next two days. I start off with buying a bottl of wine on Friday evening. Then, I can sleep a little more than usual for two glorious mornings.

And, I can come here and gaze at your beautiful Golden faces.

Have a great weekend, Carolyn!

Wow---what gorgeous color you have in the Brevard area. We love that area and have been there several times. We live on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee (elevation 2000 feet)--but our colors are not nearly as pretty so far.

Dogs do so enjoy a "REAL" walk ... new territory, wonderful new smells ... such a TREAT!

Oh, I LOVE the "smiles" on the faces of your sweet girls! How fun!

I agree with Jayne--those girls really are smiling!

I do love your dogs. I want to bury my hands in that golden fur.
Fluffy sweetness.
Like golden cotton candy.

My sentiments exactly! I LOVE Fridays....because they bring Saturday mornings. I get up earlier on Saturdays than I do during the week....just so I can relish every moment!

Your girls sure look like they had fun!

What a nice post, such a nice topic! Sounds fun and physical but calming, like those kind of days! Beautiful Goldens. We have Brittanys and we seem to forever be walking to satisfy their need to be on the move!!(sometimes I think their need to move is what keeps us healthier) Thanks for sharing!

Delia - We don't eat red meat, except for our weekly steak.

Science guy - They were delighted being on a new trail.

Dog geek - It was a great afternoon.

Cheryl - Thanks, we do work hard to keep the girls groomed.

Fishing guy - Your golden sunset is breath-taking. And thanks so much for the award.

Mary - I agree. Nothing like relaxing with a good wine and those two Lickers.

Betsy - Thanks for dropping by. Your neck of the woods is gorgeous.

Cicero - Amazing that they seem to know this is a new place they've never been. They spend a lot of time running and sniffing.

Jayne and Donna - We've had other dogs that smiled, but never like these two.

Susan - They do have such soft cotton candy hair, especially Ellie. And I often sit on the floor with them, sinking my hands into the silky hair.

Kerri - I did the same thing when I was working. Didn't want to miss an hour of the weekend.

Tina - I suspect your Brittanys have a bit more energy than our Goldens. You really need to keep moving to give them enough exercise.
