We Love Lucy

Mid-July already?  Around here it feels more like mid-August.  Our weather in a word?  HOT  The days are mostly sunshiny and the major storms in the mountains passed us by, giving us a light and sound show but very little rain.  Worst of all, our famous mountain breezes have been more stilled than usual.  It is strange indeed to look out the windows and see the leaves quiet and still.  And our typical evening cool down is still 70 degrees or so.  I do hope this is not the new normal.

Summer is moving on.  Already we can hear the sounds of some katydids.  Few in number, they will soon be joined by a host of others making a lot of noise during summer evenings.

Lucy spends very little time outdoors in weather like this.  An early morning run and our usual evening walk and the occasional trip for necessary processes.  But other than that, she much prefers the coolness of the house.  So do we.

Smiling at the camera for a change
Hey Mom.  I'm just trying to help you out here.

On a positive note, I am getting a lot of reading done.  (But on a negative note, I should be using the time to clean my closets.)  Somehow the reading is much more fun.

Our quote today comes from the Dalai Lama:

"Whether one believes in a religion or not,
And whether one believes in rebirth or not,
There isn't anyone who doesn't appreciate kindness and compassion."

Sometimes I fear we are becoming more and more rude as a nation and less and less compassionate.  It seems that more people are too self-absorbed with their electronic devices to be courteous to others.  People seem less interested in admiring the beauty around them and more interested in taking a selfie of themselves surrounded by the beauty they have ignored.  We seem to be raising a generation who have been praised so much for being mediocre they are happy enough with the status quo and feel entitled to praise and cheer.  I hope we can change the path we seem to be traveling.  And fortunately, the previous statements do not apply to all so I am a bit more optimistic.

I hope this is a good summer for everyone.  And that you are able to enjoy it.

HAVE A SAFE AND WONDERFUL WEEKEND.
TREAT OTHERS WITH KINDNESS AND COMPASSION

So nice to see Lucy smiling for the camera. I hope the weather cools down there and most especially those night-time temps. We're having a spell of sunshine and high temps in the 70s. Not typical for Arcata, but much appreciated.

I will always be glad that I came of age before computers and smart phones.

Your summer weather sounds odd for your area. I'm wondering if you get the amount of humidity that we get; that for me is the most miserable part of summer. We enjoy our a/c as well.
Your quote is lovely. I'm always so perplexed about people who are unkind and have no compassion. There must be something wrong with their wiring; it's so easy for so many of us.

Love your quote today. Lucy does look happy, good for her! Yep, I keep wondering when I can't sleep with windows open at night, but so far we still get cool enough by midnight. The mountain coolness slides down where I live, whether there's a breeze or not...so fans keep me comfortable at this point. Daytimes I do love the A.C!

If I was wearing Lucy's fur coat, I'd seek the cool times also. But then, I am not wearing such a garment and I still only enjoy the mornings and evenings. Thank goodness for A/C. We have been in the high nineties for quite a while now with no relief in sight.
Cute to see Lucy smiling and not peeved about the camera.

That's a lovely smile from Lucy.
When the weather is just too hot - it's always best to take things more slowly, and try to keep as cool as possible. Sitting down and catching up on reading is very cool!

All the best Jan

A smiling Lucy! That's a pleasant change! Hot here, too, I sympathize with you.

I too agree...this world is becoming more rude. We should all take the quote to heart and show kindness and compassion more often.
Lucy's smile is precious! It's sad she can not enjoy the outdoors more because of the heat. Or for that matter, all of us! It's just too hot to be outside.

Happy Saturday to you. I think the weather all over has been weird this year. WE have had more rain than normal while the west coast is suffering from a drought.
Sending hugs your way.

I'm a volunteer in the reading garden at our neighborhood library. It's on one part of a busy, irregular intersection. There is also a supermarket, a very large church with its parking lot across the street, so there is traffic. All the turn lanes are marked and have green arrows, so traffic should move smoothly, if not aways at the pace one would hope. However, the peaceful setting of the shady garden is marred all too often by car horns. Not even a quick tap, but jarring, angry blasts which make the birds go silent. I can't imagine why they're honking, nor can I imagine what they accomplish, except for making a harsh intrusion into a lovely setting.

The heat is dreadful I was able to put in two hours in the garden this morning before retreating to the house and iced tea and a fan.

I don't get out a lot but I certainly see the rudeness on Facebook where the relative anonymity seems to allow some people to be incredibly rude.

I like the quote and please tell Lucy that she and I have a lot in common. I poke my head out, feel the heat ... and retreat to the inside and a good book.

Your thoughts are also my thoughts this am. Did you see the man saying that all people's lives matter and then had to back off due to the crowd saying only black lives matter!

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Suz - It's the humidity here as well. Makes it awful

Mary Lee - Too bad the drivers manage to ruin such a peaceful setting.

Linda - Yes, I did see that. What a shame.

Yes, I do agree that most people can't see the beauty around them, and that is truly sad and very unfortunate. I agree with Lucy that the best waybto beat the heat is to ve indoors. Reading has become a favorite pasttime of mine as well.
