We've had a rather quiet week here on the mountain. For several weeks we had workmen of one sort or the other and now they've all finished and gone. The days have been bright and sunny with thunderstorms most evenings.
Lucy gets to go for a run by the lake nearly every morning. She loves the freedom of running off lead. After she runs and runs, she walks along the lake looking and sniffing. Sometimes she looks as if she is stalking some prey but we have yet to actually see what it is that grabbed her attention.
Sneaking up on something she never finds and we never see
This park by the lake will be filled with families in a few hours
But for now it belongs to Lucy
Lucy is not at all concerned with thunder and lightning. She loves to sit with us on the porch and watch the storms. When we come inside she lies on her bed looking out at the rain falling on the deck until she starts to snooze again.
And so the dog's life goes on
A pretty good life if you ask me
This weekend is expected to bring us some very hot temperatures. When it's 90 in the mountains, it feels even hotter than 90 in much warmer places of the south. Needless to say, we will stay inside except for the early morning hours. At least it will be cooler then.
Today's quote is a familiar one by James Russell Lowell:
And what is so rare as a day in June?
Then, if ever, come perfect days;
Then Heaven tries earth if it be in tune
And over it softly her warm ear lays.
I hope heaven lays softly on your June days.
HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY WEEKEND WITH WARM AND PERFECT JUNE DAYS

Lucy looks like she has some great mornings at the lake. How wonderful that she gets to run there and sniff the world to her heart's content.
What a lovely way to start or end any day!
I've had dogs that are "storm phobic" and am so grateful that at the moment, we only have one that is, and he just needs a little reassurance. Enjoy your weekend, and stay cool!!
I love "sneaking up" Lucy! We just got over an inch of rain, so my plants are happy!
At least your nights cool down dramatically and that's a blessing. I remember watching thunderstorms from my grandmother's porch in the mountains.
I can imagine the scene.....you, your husband and Lucy sitting on the porch during a storm. How wonderful. I would watch storms with my father.......now I do it with Poppi.
Nella is not frightened of storms but my Cavaliers were..........they would hide behind or beneath furniture.
that photo of Lucy lying there watching the rain....I just want to lie down next to her for a snooze (with my own dog bed thank you very much). We had 109 degrees here yesterday....good goddess.
Glad to hear your workers are gone and quiet has descended on the mountain. Enjoy your weekend with dear Lucy.
Oh 'NC' I love your pictures. Some dogs so not like storms but it's lovely to hear how Lucy sits out with you on the porch.
I hope you have a lovely weekend, whatever the weather may bring.
All the best Jan
It's been a warm one all right -- hoeing and thinning corn this morning till the heat drove me inside. Waiting for the sum to slip behind the mountain before I go back to the garden.
It;s wonderful that Lucy doesn't mind storms. It;s so sad when they're terrorized t=by thunder.
Love Lucy by the water. Does she ever want to jump in? I'll bet it's still pretty cold...
Thanks for your comments, everyone.
Bug - Actually she has never tried to jump in the water. She does love to wade in the creeks and streams.
