We had a lovely Christmas. After we opened the gifts, we gave Lucy hers. A plush toy puzzle. It is a hollow tree stump with three little squirrels hiding inside. They all have squeakers. It's a great toy.
Lucy has no idea what she is supposed to do
She tentatively chews an edge of wrapping
She moves near my husband and looks at me
My husband helped her take off some paper.
Even with one of the squirrels visible, Lucy is not really interested.
We finally placed the toy on her bed. She clearly has no idea what to do with it.
We tried putting our hands inside the stump, putting one squirrel inside and squeaking it, tossing the squirrels like tennis balls but Lucy was having none of it.
She still has not touched the toy and in fact moves to avoid it. The gift was not a success at all but we will leave it around just in case.
Today's quote is from author Edna Ferber:
Christmas isn't a season. It's a feeling.
So let's try to keep this feeling longer.
HAVE A WONDERFUL AND SAFE WEEKEND, EVERYONE!

It is a wonderful gift. I'm sorry Lucy is so lost as to what to do with it. Perhaps one day... Thank you for posting...you give us a gift we cherish, as we love Lucy...and you.
So funny about toys, they either like them or they don't. I hit on a good one this year as Mingus LOVED his toy.
... besides ... where's the fun without Ellie?
What an adorable toy.
At least it is kind of cute even when it isn't being played with.
Mighty never played with the first toy. I quit trying and just got him edibles.
Such a sweet gift for your beautiful Lucy. What kind of toys does she like? The ones Ellie played with? Maybe she just needs to see someone playing with it first.
Looks like you had a lovely Christmas!
She will probably 'discover' it eventually.
BOL - give her some time. Maybe invent some games with it. She will catch on.

As others have said, perhaps time will be what Lucy needs to discover the fun of her new toy. Wishing you a good weekend and a peaceful new year.
Dogs and toys are an enigma. What will they like and why don't they like the toys other dogs like?
With all my dogs, I've noticed each had a favorite toy and often turned up their nose at new ones. Lucy is a beauty.
Thanks for your comments, everyone.
Lucy still ignores the toy but we are spending some time playing with her alongside the squirrels. Perhaps she will at least use it for a pillow.
I bet that Lucy is a bit lost without Ellie. She may feel more adventurous with time and give it a try.
We have hung onto a few toys that our previous dogs have rejected. We brought them out when Shyla arrived, and, to our surprise, she loves them! And her enthusiasm has led R to like them too. So, it might be worth being very patient...
Lucy glows with beauty.
Isn't she a funny girl??? Ozzie rarely ever touches a toy....but Cocoa would LOVE Lucy's!!!
