Lucy has never had a plush toy. Ellie had already learned to disembowel them before Lucy arrived on the scene. This year we got Lucy a plush toy for Christmas. We're not sure what she will do with it.
Lucy deep in thought
Each year at Christmas, we give the Golden Girls presents. And each year Lucy looks on while Ellie opens them. She doesn't seem to know what to do, so she follows Ellie's lead.
Ellie tears right in
When the presents are opened, Lucy watches Ellie to see what to do with them.
Ellie watches to make sure Lucy is gets it
We're not sure whether or not Lucy will figure out how to open her gift. And we are not at all sure what she will do with a stuffie. I'll let you know.
Today's quote is from author Abigail Thomas:
I watch my dogs. They throw themselves into everything they do; even their sleeping is whole-hearted. They aren't waiting for a better tomorrow or looking back at their glory days. Following their example I'm trying to stick to the present.
Wise words indeed. As someone once said, this is not a dress rehearsal. Live your life today.
HAVE A MOST WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE!!!

I do hope Lucy figures it out. It is hard when you are a follower to take the lead. Let us know how it goes.
I love that quote.
Oh sweet Lucy - I can't wait to find out what she does with a stuffy!
That is bittersweet to see the pictures of the two girls. Wouldn;t you love to know what Lucy was thinking?
Such a wonderful quote. I'm looking forward to reading how Lucy does with her new toy. I hope she has a blast!
Such a wonderful quote! Dear Lucy...I hope you enjoy your present, whatever you choose to do with it. Sending much love...
For the first time this year, we got our dog a gift--a squeaky Lambchop stuffed toy. She likes to pull things out of a bag, so we haven't wrapped it, we bagged it.
Dear Lucy--have a happy Christmas.
And Lucy's family--you also!
I'm sure she will do fine. Monty is always distracted by shining bows - but we think Harlow will figure out how to open both of their presents.

I love the quote too. It is right on.
I'm sure that Lucy is changing and adapting - and that you are helping her immensely. I bet that, with a little help from you, she'll figure out how to open her present!
Hi there, I knew that Lucy would grow into being an only dog. Our last dog Reggie never played with a toy-just didn't understand, I think it was because he was from a puppy mill and never had the chance. I love the quote too, so true.
Have a great weekend and wonderful Christmas!
Hugs, Noreen
Firsts ... even for Lucy! The first Christmas without Ellie. Mingus LOVES his stuffies. His favourites he doesn't disembowel quite so fast. He is getting one for Christmas but because I left him so long the other day I bought a two dollar thing that he has chosen to LOVE. There is no telling with him just what he will like ... not always what I like let me tell you!
The quote is perfect and I try to subscribe to it. And Merry Christmas to you and yours, Carolyn...;)
That is a fabulous quote. Lucy is a bit like our Ozzie….a follower, but the sweetest follower ever.
Have a great day!
XO
Love that quote -- it sums up why I am so addicted to dogs.
Thanks for your comments, everyone.
