LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

Like many other places, the mountains have seen quite a variety of weather patterns this week.  Much of the week has been cloudy with rain or mist much of the time.

Lucy looks out at the rain.

While Ellie just lies there thinking.

Ellie always makes this play-bow before going down the stairs to be groomed.

Two beds side by side but two dogs side by side in one bed.

On sunny days we went for long walks.
Lucy chooses a soft pillow on which to rest afterwards.

February is speeding by.  Today is my son's birthday.  His wife surprised him.  She asked me for the recipe of the chocolate pound cake my son always requested for his birthday when he lived at home.  She doesn't often bake, but she followed the directions to perfection and baked the cake, made the icing, and decorated it.  My son was impressed and somehow I got thanked as well though I did no more than share the recipe.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR SON!

I am seething with anger about some of the political rhetoric of the past week.  I had written two lengthy paragraphs in this post and then I remembered that Fridays are supposed to be golden.  So I will hold my piece, at least for today.

Our thought for the week comes from Trappist monk, Thomas Merton.

"The whole idea of compassion is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all living beings which are all part of one another and all involved with one another."

We are all interdependent, folks.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, EVERYONE!

Fridays ARE golden - especially with such soft pillows to be had :)

I'm kind of slack-jawed at it all, frankly. A. Ma. Zing.

Happy birthday to your dear son! What a thoughtful DIL to make his "mom's" Cake for him!
Happy friday and enjoy your weekend with your golden girls!

A wife that uses your Mom's recipe for your favorite cake... how lucky is that! Happy Birthday to your (lucky) Son!

PS: One of the word verifications below, is son!

PSS: I hate this new, tricky word verification. Why the heck did they have to change it?

Happy birthday to your son.
I am angry about the political nonsense this week. Men and their butting into the area of contraception. Makes me crazy. The intravaginal ultrasound being required in Virginia is another area on the same topic. What year is this anyway??
Sorry you can delete the non-golden peace.

I've turned off my word verification...it was driving me and everyone else crazy!!

Happy Birthday to your son! I'll bet the cake was delicious.

Don't get me started on the politics of late....we'll save that for Monday, okay?

Have a great weekend!

You are a good MIL to share the recipe and not throw in a rogue ingredient so your son would always think yours was better. Nice job.
Happy Birthday to your son.

Happy Birthday to your son! I love the pound cake story.

Your girls always look so perfectly groomed and glow with good health. They make me smile, sharing a bed like they do.

Your line "...but then I remembered that Fridays are supposed to be Golden." made me laugh out loud!

Give those beautiful Goldens hugs and bellyrubs for me!

As usual, your girls are beautiful and I love the way they share.

I'll take a deep breath and await your coming post. I am horrified that we have allowed women's rights about their own bodies to become a political football.

Sweet dogs as always. And always the political rhetoric. There is one candidate whose religious comments on others religions bring to mind in this history teacher - The Inquisition. In those days he would have surrounded his attack with the word _ heritic. My word is disgusting... :(

You may want to do like me and turn off the media. I simply can't listen to this rubbish again.

Now about that pound cake...recipe, please? Yum.

I read a story once about Golden Moments so I like how you entitle your Friday blogs. I think it is great that you kept Friday Golden and put the seething aside.
