Most of the photos I have posted show our Golden Girls in calm states. This is not always the case. These girls have a wrestling match at least once a day. The match usually begins with one or the other picking up a blue tug toy and shoving it into the other dog's face. Often they will pull the toy for a while. At other times they will go straight to the main event.
We are fortunate enough to have a very large den with heavy furniture. This is where the wrestling matches take place. (They know this behavior is not allowed elsewhere in the house.)
No one has ever been injured during the bouts, although Ellie routinely ends up with wet ears. We do not referee the matches. The game belongs to the dogs. They will twist and turn, jump on one another and become a tangled Golden mess.
The wrestling match will end as suddenly as it began. By some signal not recognized by humans they abruptly stop and life goes on as usual.
And now, the contestants! Ellie, at 64 pounds is wearing the blue collar. Lucy at 65 pounds is wearing the red collar. Let the fun begin!

Pretty dogs! The cats wrestle too, but it's usually quick.
Believe it or not, we have the same wrestling matches between our cat and our rabbit! I need to try and catch a picture.
Oh too funny. I can picture them rolling around having a grand time.
Right - that was fun. Thanks.
What a joy they are to watch! All in good fun girls, all in good fun. :c) Hope you have a great weekend too Carolyn... I am playing catch up in my blog reading today.
I'm glad to see that your dogs aren't always so calm and dignified! It's great to see them let their hair down (probably both figuratively and literally - I would imagine that these wrestling matched result in some flying golden fur!)
Putting down $5 on the dog with the blue collar ....
Dog wrestling games are pretty fun. I don't have room indoors for Big Time Wrestling, so I encourage those games to be played outside. Sometimes people who don't understand dogs see the fake bites and hear the snarls and think it is a real fight, but I can tell by their tones when it is a game and when someone is taking it a bit too far. Then, it's "Neutral corners, everybody!" and Mom calls a time out.

Oh they do look like they're having fun!
Delia - yes, I've seen cats wrestle, but not for long.
Lynne - You need to show us a picture. That must be really cute.
Donna - Oh, they do roll and twist. And have a great time.
Helen - They do seem to have fun. And it's fun for us to watch.
Jayne - Thanks. It's hard to keep up sometimes.
dog geek - Yes, we brush them every day and I vacuum every day.
Kathi - You would definitely win the bet. Ellie is 2 years older and one of the best days in her life was when vet said, "Let her go for it," meaning Lucy was now large enough that she didn't need protection. That afternoon, Ellie ran toward Lucy, flipping her in the air. What a shock to Lucy! She had never received any retaliation for her puppy jumping and chewing. She was amazed that Ellie would suddenly respond to her "attacks."
They look like they are having fun!!
