The American Goldfinches have had an enormously successful nesting season around here. The trees are full of them and they are indeed lovely to watch. Here are some shots I took in less than 30 minutes.
Note the bird on the right, just starting to take flight.
As we celebrated this holiday weekend, our thoughts go out to those in the path of the storm. We hope for the safety of everyone. And good wishes to all who are in jeopardy for whatever reason.

I always get tons of 'em at my sunflowers. They sure do love their seeds.
Beautiful pictures!
And I also am praying for the people in the storms paths!
Your pictures are great! The finches are so beautiful and it is amazing how many there are. What do you feed them in your feeders?
We wish we were up at our mountain house, but we are in South Florida instead. We have been feeling the outside bands of Gustav since yesterday. It is amazing how large this storm is. Our cousin, who lives in New Orleans, comes to visit every Labor Day weekend and lucky for him he is here with us. We too pray for all the people in harms way!
I never tire of watching these birds. I love their bouncy flight and happy chirps. Great pictures.
Glad to hear of such a success ... ful year of nesting! Such a nice kind of abundance to have flitting around. Lovely photos.
Beautiful, beautiful!
And I too am thinking about people in the path of the storm...it looks bad!
What beautiful pictures! Goldfinches always make the landscape seem so cheerful! We have had large numbers this summer, too. Yesterday there were so many on my sunflowers, when they took off it looked like the sunflowers were taking flight.
Your Goldfinch are beautiful. We are just starting to see some here again after they left for northern nesting. Indeed, our thoughts and prayers are with those in harm's way.
Lovely goldfinch!! These birds really make me smile :) They always seem so HAPPY!
