It rained yesterday. We actually had some rain. Not just a sprinkle, but a real summer shower. The rain was not expected or predicted by the meteorologists. It just fell. And welcome it was.
There was a puddle in the turn-around and the raindrops spashed the water.
The raindrops bounced off the dry pavement and the parched earth.
The raindrops fell on the walk, and made spatters in the bird bath.
It rained on the deck, the umbrella and dusty table and chairs. Mother Nature giving everything a bath.
The rain blew against the windows. From the bridge above the great room, the trees outside the window had a mystical look. The rain on the window turned the outside world into a painting. What a joy to behold.
When the rain ended, we were delighted to find that we had received an inch of rain. It isn't much, and it won't end the drought. But it certainly lifted the spirits of this household.
The rain began again. It fell heavily, easily, with no meaning or intention but the fulfilment of its own nature, which was to fall and fall. Helen Garner

When we lived at the coast(Vancouver area), where it rains a good part of the time, we weren't so enthusiastic about rain. Now, we too rejoice in it. Up here we need all the moisture we can get.

Ah rain--it is so refreshing and restoring. I marvel that we complain when it rains. Without it. . .well, we wouldn't be around to complain.
Having had a rather wet spring and early summer, we are now in need of rain in central PA. It is dry here, and I don't like it. But, we have had more than you have--so enjoy your rain, as you have been.
I found your blog by accident and have really enjoyed reading it! I live in South Florida, but have a home north of you in NC and unfortunately we don't get up there as much as we would like. I am able to get my "mountain fix" through blogs like yours...thank you! I love when it rains in the mountains as it always smells so fresh and clean. Right now we are bracing for lots of rain and wind down here tomorrow as "Fay" moves our way. You will probably get rain from that later on in the next week or so.
I love your bubbling bird bath. It is so unique and perfect for a mountain garden.

We didn't have rain the last 2 days. The longest stretch we have gone this summer without rain is 4 days. I am so happy you got the much needed moisture.
I just sat here living vicariously through your wet photos Carolyn. We've had scarce little in the past few weeks, and air quality is stagnant. Looking forward to a good soaker.
I wish you could send some our way! (But I guess not until after the neighbors get their hay up this afternoon.)
See, up here, it has rained in some way, shape, or form 36 out of the last 71 days and 5 out of the last 7 weekends, so rain is not so appreciated.
We had rain yesterday, too! Just like you described to beautifully... It was strange to hear rain tapping the windows...something many people take for granted. It was peaceful for a short while.
Now we can look forward to later this week...
We need rain everything is so dry and the garden needs water often, our city doubled the water bills and ask where is the extra money going, only got a lousy answer, rain makes you feel gloomy.

Cicero - On a "normal" year, our county has more rain per year than any county in North Carolina. This is the second year of drought.
Home Cook - Thanks for dropping by. Yes, that is the upper deck (the porch is below it) and it's almost like living in a tree house.
Donna - Our drought is worse than last year.

Science guy - Your area sounds like our area should be. We average more than 80 inches of rain in a normal year.
Mary - I know just what you mean. I did nothing except watch and listen to the rain during the entire shower.
Margaret - I assure you, no one here will get gloomy because of rain for quite a while.
Helen - I did not go out, although I thought about moving my car out of the garage to get it rinsed off. It is filty.
