Happy Birthday USA and Lucy

On July 4, 2005 a little firecracker was born. Another puppy from Dichi Goldens, she was named Dichi Lemonade Lucy. We had planned to name the puppy Abigail Adams and call her Abby. Thinking Abby was too similar to Ellie (our other dog), we decided on Lucy. The "lemonade" part is from the only first lady named Lucy, wife of Rutherford B. Hayes.

Here I am shortly after I arrived at home with the Powells.

Ellie was two at the time, and didn't quite know what to make of this little ball of energy.

Don't think you are the boss anymore. I'm here now and those days are over.

Here is Lucy at three. She does not like to sit for a photograph.

Let's get this over. I have stuff to do.

More relaxed in the great room.

Yawn. I think I'll take a short nap.

Obviously, the biggest celebration today is the celebration of our country's independence. We have always flown an American flag at our house. Our current flag makes my husband smile every time he looks at it.

I ordered this flag from my Senator. It flew over the Capitol on the first day of my husband's retirement.

Whatever you may do to celebrate the 4th, I hope you have a safe and happy one.

Science guy - thanks

Helen - There IS nothing cuter than a puppy unless it's a baby bluebird.
