LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

We Love Lucy

Lucy picked up a cold virus either at the hospital or at the veterinarian office.  She was sneezing quite a bit.  I had heard that a spoonful of honey would help quiet a cough and sneeze in dogs.  Since we always have honey around, we decided to give it a try.  I got some flimsy paper dessert plates and poured out a spoonful of sourwood honey for her.

New regulations about the use of "sourwood" honey on the label make it difficult for the small bee keeper to legally use the term.  But this is definitely sourwood and it is delicious.

Lucy thought it was the best thing ever!

 She neatly lapped it up.

Wait, Dad.  There is still a little dab of honey.
Put that back down here, please.

Surprisingly enough, the honey was really effective.  Since she is not overweight at all and her other snacks are fruits and veggies, we decided it wouldn't hurt to give her the honey twice a day.  Lucy definitely agrees.

We are very much enjoying the quiet in the mountains just now.  The summer tourists have gone and the leaf peepers won't come for another month.  The weather has been good and we are delighted that Lucy has not had any seizure activity or any thing abnormal at all.  She's glad to be back running in the park.

Since no one loves honey more than Winnie the Pooh, it is fitting that today's quote comes from him via A. A. Milne:

"Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known."

Not bad for a bear of little brain.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE.  THINK OF THOSE IN NEED AND HELP THEM IF YOU CAN.

Glad to know that Lucy is doing well, and that the honey helped with her sneezing. Great news. Enjoy the quiet mountain days there.

I'm glad to know this about honey and that it helped Lucy so much. Will have to keep it in mind for Wilson…he would love it too. I am happy that you put that Winnie the Pooh quote at the end of your post. I always associate Winnie the Pooh with you! I still remember you reading it to us at bedtime, before you would leave to go home. Thanks for the memories, Carolyn. I am sure I love books because of you. I've probably told you before and I might have to tell you a few more times…it just really meant a lot. :)

what a good find. I'll keep it in mind in case one of my doggies develops a cough. Hopefully, I shall be able to remember!!

That quote is priceless. I completely agree with that philosophy. We should spend more time gazing over bridges.

Thanks for that honey tip. Wonder if it would work on Minnie the cat's asthma? I'll Google it first.
Wonderful news that Lucy is doing so well. That may have been a one time thing.

I'll have to remember that. Harlow had quite the cough/sneeze/allergy something when we got her. It went away with a change in environment but she had a rough time with it.

I am not surprised the honey worked. I take honey every day, and often feed it to bumble bees that are in distress.
I have to say I have never given it to Nella.......but after reading your post will certainly use it if she has a cold.

So pleased to hear that Lucy is doing well, long may it continue...............mot surprised she enjoyed the honey:)

Fabulous quote............

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Daricia - Oh, I do so remember those days. Thanks

Patti - I have no clue about honey and cats

Sam - Local honey is especially good for allergies. In dogs and in children

I've never heard of the honey Rx for a dog's cold. Sorry that she picked one up but I'm glad that there haven't been more seizures. My fingers are crossed that they stay away.

That Winnie the Pooh quote is wonderful and oh so true.

What a sweet quote from my favorite bear. So interesting about the honey; I'll have to remember that. We love purchasing local honey!

Hi, Love the quote too; I've heard of using honey for the health of a dog but never used it. I have used it most of my life for coughs and when I have a sore throat, I mix it with lemon. So glad Lucy is doing better.
