LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Small Town Fourth

Like most towns and cities, we have an Independence Day festival downtown.  We go down to all the festivals to look at the displays and purchase from local craft vendors.  We go down early before the large crowds.  Large crowd is a relative term in small towns.  Makes us miss the children's parade, but at least it isn't crowded.  Music filled the air and the mood was as festive as the displays.

It was a beautiful day in the mountains.  Clear with just-right temperatures and low humidity.

A view down one of the streets

I can't believe we passed up the chance to get this mystic clay that cures most ills.

At first we thought this was for display purposes.  But then we saw the EMTs assisting a fallen vendor.
We hope the injury was minor.

Yes, Virginia.  We do have some Democrats in Transylvania County

The Republican Party booth is usually very crowded.  Notice the period dress.
There was no Tea Party booth this year.  I think they lent their costumes to the Republicans.

Many of the non-profit vendors were handing out free bottles of water.  I especially like the one from the Episcopal church.  The label listed the top ten reasons to become an Episcopalian.  Number ten?  "You don't have to handle rattlesnakes."

We by-passed the festival food, amazed at the number of people eating heavy greasy food so early in the morning.  We strolled along and looked at all the displays, bought a few things and were home by 11:00.  The weather remained perfect and we had a great day.

Looks like fun......I can understand you bypassing the greasy food :)
It seems to be a wonderful opportunity for local people to come together.

Glad you enjoyed your day..........

Looks great, and I'm glad the Episcopalians are snake free! What a thing to say. We know those Appalachian churches who handle snakes don't give away water! Right?

I can't believe you didn't purchase the all curing clay!!!
I laughed at the water bottle wording; love their sense of humor.

Looks like a lovely celebration there. Makes me wish I had photographed the local celebration in the town square here. Next year for sure!

Hum wonder if that mystic clay would have eased my chigger bites?
Love the #l reason to become an Episcopalian. I was one in my youth and they are right, no snakes.
Small town 4th celebrations do take us back to a kinder time.
It was a perfect weekend here also.

We did the same thing at a neighboring town... Harmony, Minnesota. We could use more of that these days...:)

Everyone should go to the 4th in their own manner! Love your commentary...lol! Keep the faith, my friend, and your health. We had a good 4th, too, with family in the Piedmont. It is an important day, to be sure.

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Cheryl - I couldn't believe the number of people eating the greasy food so early in the morning.

B. Rogers - You're right.

Suz - Yes, I was amazed and a bit skeptical about the miracle clay.

Robin - We do love these small town festivals.

NanaNor - The weather was mountain perfect.

Patti - I'm sure it would take care of those chigger bites. Have you ever tried "after bite?"

Troutbirder - Yes, we do need more days like that with the community coming together.

Linthead - Celebrations are different. The one in Milwaukee was huge, but our little village in WI was much smaller with free ice cream.

Brenda Kay - Thanks

The joys of smaller town life and especially on holidays like July 4th. Here is means the annual non-motorized parade, ice cream social and band concert, and library book sale///but sadly no fireworks displays.
