LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

We love old cemeteries and there are plenty of them around here.  This is a very old community cemetery not far from our home.  This is a photograph of the older section.  Some of the graves are marked simply with a stone.  Others have crude carvings in the rock.

We love to wander through the cemetery but the dogs are much more interested in the open grassy hill.  It is a perfect place to romp and play.

The play often begins with a little wrestling match.  These matches are very short-lived.  The open grass is too big a temptation.

As usual, Lucy starts out like a rocket.

And this time Ellie also runs at break-neck speed.  Running on grass feels just great.

Ellie stops for a moment and enjoys the light breeze.

They are very tired by evening.  In this rare instance it appears that Ellie is actually using Lucy for a pillow for a change.  In truth, Ellie was there first and when Lucy plopped down she had no choice but to put her head and paw on Lucy.

Hundreds of thousands of our fellow inhabitants of this planet are in peril this weekend.  Natural disasters and man-made disasters threaten them.  Regardless of the reason, these people are in harm's way.  Spend a bit of time being thankful that you are safe and send positive thoughts to those who are not.

Hold on to your loved ones this weekend!!!

What beautiful dogs you have. I just love the tails and the long flowing hair and the look of joy as they play.

As you say....Hold on Tight.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone and their loved ones inthe next few days danger.

I enjoy the romps of your girls. It's one of the best things about Fridays--the best being the weekend is here. Finally!

I have two relatives who did not evacuate to higher ground. One in NJ, and one in NC. Sigh...

I was worried about you and glad to hear you are o.k. I've been lifting those on the east coast up in prayer-that they would be safe and leave any bad areas.
Have a great weekend.

Far from the impending storm we hope all will be safe.

The girls really enjoyed their visit to the old cemetery. I'm frankly glad I no longer live in Little River this weekend. I went through three hurricanes, and that is enough.

I love the photos of the girls romping!! They look wonderfully happy.

We have remarkably few cemeteries in our mountains. I discovered that the reason is that everyone gets buried on their land. And, believe it or not, there's no law about having to tell the government where the body is buried. I wonder how many are buried on my land?

I hope that you are far away from the hurricane's path.

Your Goldies are gorgeous...we have four dogs presently, out here on Honeysuckle Hill...Molly McGee, the Jack Russell terrorist; Caylee, our little rescue mutt; Bella, my grandson's german Shepherd mix; and our newest addition, little Roxie the Doxie, a mini daschhund with a big attitude. My niece (a realtor) found her abandoned in an empty house, where she was left to eat out of garbage bags to survive for over a week. She's coming along nicely...

We love them all and are luck enough to live out in the country where they can all run to their hearts content.

Love the pics!

Your girls make me laugh and cry all at once! So beautiful, so loving, so much a reminder of all that is good and right in this world. I have friends in DC who are sitting on pins and needles tonight, awaiting Irene. I pray they will be safe and sound come Monday.

I love old cemeteries too. I like to think that some day I'll be that quiet too. Or maybe that's other people who wish that about me. Be safe out there.

Love your Friday post! The old cemetery is a great place to let the dogs run.
I am praying that Irene slows down and everyone is safe in her path.

I love old cemeteries to! I remember doing a school project with my daughter in our local cemetry. It was very quiet and calming and we both enjoyed the experience.

The golden girls look beautiful with their coats flowing.
It takes a lot of work to keep their coats in such good condition.
I can see they are well loved and looked after......

I have been following 'Irene' on the BBC News.
Some of the blogs I follow are on that coastline.....I pray for their safety and hope the danger soon passes.

Hi!

I’ve enjoyed exploring your site! I too am a dog lover. I’m also a filmmaker at Columbia University in NYC and recently made a short romantic comedy about a guy who thinks his dog can talk. It’s called, "Dear Dog, I Love You", and it stars a very special rescued dog. We plan to use the finished product to raise support for shelters and the rescue process.

Because of your interest in the dog community, I wondered if you might do a post on your blog to your readers about my film. We've already shot the movie, but need some assistance with the post-production and therefore have started a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds.

This is a special film because it stars the up and coming dog actor Paul Newman. A few short years ago, Paul Newman was found tied and starved in an abandoned garage. He was rescued by Suzanne Fitch of Mid-Atlantic Basset Hound Rescue, where he was matched with his wonderful trainer and caretaker, Karen. Now Paul Newman is one of the smartest and most talented dogs I know.
Please check out the trailer and campaign here:

Because of his amazing story, we think this is a great opportunity to draw attention to the animal rescue community. As mentioned above, once we finish our film, we hope to share it with shelters and the rescue community in hopes that some of the proceeds made from the film can help take care of dogs in need.

Please contact me and let me know if this is something you would do. Thank you for your time!
