LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

Impossible as it may seem, here we are ending the first week of August.  Around our house we are all in a bit of a funk.  The humans so worried about the direction in which our Congress is leading us (or failing to lead us), and the canines because it is way too hot to do much of anything outside.

Like much of the country we have had weather with temperatures much higher than normal and with several record-breaking high temperatures.  With the high humidity the misery index climbs every day.

The dogs get most of their exercise very early in the mornings.  My husband rises before dawn most days, and as soon as the daylight comes, he takes the Golden Girls out for a walk and a romp.  The girls just hang around the rest of the day, going out for potty breaks and coming right back inside.

Lucy is quite bored.  Nothing to do but watch the birds and mope.

Ellie is the same.  She just had an ice cube (hence the wet spot on the bed) and mopes along with Lucy.

We have been so discouraged by the actions of some of our "leaders" in Congress.  So much partisanship on both sides of the aisle, and so little respect for compromise.  I cannot recall a more dysfunctional Congress  whose members seem to have lost interest in the good of the Nation and our future.  The best I can do is to contact my Senators and Representative and express my views.  And to keep informed so I can make an informed decision for the next election.

And for the weekend I am going to follow the advice of Sophie.  At age ten, she wrote the following in a little book called, Always Have Three Friends and Never Eat a Bug:   Never give up or lose faith even if you don't really believe.
NOTE:  I just realized the book is called, "Always Have Three Friends and Never Eat a Fly."  (Sorry I wrote Bug)

I must admit that I really don't believe they can work together, but I will try very hard not to lose faith in our Congress.  Well, at least for this weekend.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, EVERYONE!!!

It really is very discouraging. Sigh. I like the idea of never eating a bug - makes me feel safter :)

Ok, no bugs. This Congress should be ashamed of itself, especially that a minority group of freshmen can dictate what is to happen. And what about the man no one elected? Mr. Norquist seems to have more power over elected officials than one should. With hope the 12 chosen will not have signed his pledge.

This Congress has no patriotism, just partisanism.

I agree with the no bug advice. It's hard to respect our politicians when they behave the way they do.

Sophie should run for congress. :)
Our dogs don't love the heat either, but it doesn't seem any different now than any other summer for us.
I have to say that I must prefer running/walking them in the early morning OR evening though. I seem to melt fairly quickly.
Enjoy the weekend.

Hi there, Just wishing you a restful and nice weekend filled with cool breezes. I totally understand the stress due to all that is going on in the financial world-this is what we live on and the thought of it dwindling has sent my poor man through the roof.
Hang in there.

The hot weather must be so awful for the dogs. At least they get an early walk.
We have had such an odd summer...weather all over the place.

Mighty joins the Golden girls. His hike and pee times now are close to olympic records.
Lets keep bugging our congress persons. That and the voting booth are our only tools.

I've been amazed for places that don't usually experience this heat and don't have AC. I couldn't live without AC. (Hopefully you do have it, I know my renters don't)

My only consolation is the young red-bellied woodpecker that is frequenting my feeder, along with a sweet little black cap chickadee. Life finds a way! I have been in mourning...no need among friends to hedge the truth...but I really need to post some of the pics from out back. We have some crazy critters up here in Ohio. In the meantime, there are far worse things in life than hanging out with mopey Golden Girls :-) Have a great weekend!

Keeping the Golden Girls cool.

Congress, The Prez, Wall Street and S&P all should be sent to the woodshed for a good spanking and an admonishment to "SNAP OUT OF IT!"

I agree that our elected officials have let us down. However, I do also contend that one man (our President) can't do it alone and when we didn't back him up in the mid-term elections we opened the door to this mess.
I will try very hard to "keep the faith" but it gets harder and harder.

I'm with Janet re Norquist. He and Rush Limbaugh have way too much power over out government.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. Hopefully we will somehow work this all out.
