LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

We got another yard bird. This one is quite tall, another made from recycled metal parts. I never ever indicated that we had good taste. But we feel comfortable enough with ourselves that we don't care what art critics might say. We buy art because we like it and it doesn't matter much what others think about it.

When we brought the piece out, the girls checked it over. They no longer get terribly excited when we buy a new work of art but they feel compelled to check it out nonetheless. As always, Lucy walks right up and starts her inspection while Ellie lingers behind, observing.

Ellie comes around and decides to check it out. By comparing the size of the dog with the size of the bird, you can appreciate that it is a rather large sculpture.

She sniffs the bird's posterior as if she were greeting another dog.

I made them pose with the bird when it was in place. They look like pouty little children because they do not like to be told exactly where to sit. It spoils the fun of being off leash in the yard.

So I took a shot of the big bird by herself. She blends into the foliage and makes me smile.

The sizzling heat in the south seems to be moderating only slightly. It's hot even here in the mountains. We are having August weather here in mid-June. At least it's beginning to cool down a bit at night, making for wonderful mornings.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. Live the words of the famous bumper sticker, and
DON'T POSTPONE JOY.

Well---what a neat new bird for your yard, Carolyn. I'm sure the Golden Girls really wondered what kind of strange bird that was!!!!! ha

One thing is for sure... Your new birdie won't poop on your property....You won't even need to feed him!!!!! I love his little feet!!!!!

Hope you have a good weekend... Happy Father's Day to your Sweetheart.
Hugs,
Betsy

How very cute! Sam barks at anything new in the backyard that was put there without his approval - we are not sure if he is guarding or criticizing!

Unique creature! Has he/she got a name? I'd suggest 3-toed struthious metallurgica! Loved your photos - especially the golden girls posing with their new friend! One cool piece of art!

I sure like the big bird. Looks like the golden girls are checking it out, too. Mama loves your dogs. I let her look at this posting, too.

Your yard bird is charming! (Lucky you don't have male dogs -- ours sometimes 'comment' on additions to the yard with a hind leg salute.)

I love your new bird. When we bought our house there were two metal birds in one of the raised rock garden beds. I was so hoping that the former owners would leave them, and am still delighted that they did. Love bird art!

That metal bird may get mighty hot in your heat and humidity! I'm not sure the girls approve. I like where you've placed it amid the greenery.

You two look very nice with that bird, even if it IS so much bigger than you!

What a nice addition to your collection. If you like it, that is all that matters. Forget the critics. Love seeing those girls. They are so beautiful. Sadly I had to put my dog down this week and it has been rough for me. Your sweet girls made me smile though.

Seems a bit far to drive to see a "lifer' but....well, us dedicated birders will go to any lengths.

I think I'm with the golden girls--hmmmm, what is it?

love the bird and the fact that the girls have to approve!

I like your new bird. I also like the picture of the girls for which you posed them. Their expression is exactly like the expression my kids had when we tried to get a good family picture.

Love the bird! Very whimsical.

I bought a wrought iron tricycle at the Garden Jubilee--just had to have it. I've learned if I think I'll be kicking myself down the road if I don't buy it, put out the money and take it home!

I love that unique metal bird sculpture! And I agree that art is suppose to be pleasing to the individual - not necessarily to the masses. I had to laugh at Ellie sniffing its butt - cute!

Thanks for commenting, everyone.

Betsy - Oh that would really be a mess. It's quite a big bird.

Sam - The girls don't bark at something new. The exception being a snowman.

Karin - Funny, we name our REAL birds but not the metal ones. Thanks to you this one now has a name. Very clever.

It is adorable and I would definitely put one out in my yard. And where I live not many others would see it. So it would have to be something that I like.
