LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

We recently bought a new piece of art for the yard. Because the dogs are usually so inquisitive, they notice every little new thing be it a plant, furniture, or artwork. We find it better to show them the new thing rather than having them stumble upon it. We anchored the piece and brought the girls out to see it.

They have a little business to attend to first. Lucy starts a little wrestling match. These occur several times a day and the dogs are not fighting. No one is ever bitten or injured, although they do look a bit vicious.

The bouts end as abruptly as they begin. This one ends with Ellie pinning Lucy to the driveway. She puts her down flat on the surface. You can almost hear Lucy saying, "Uncle."

Here is the bird we purchased. We have few requirements for our art and our collection is eclectic at best. We purchase things we like, that blend more-or-less into the yard, and are not offensive to anyone. Something about this bird caught our fancy, so we brought it home.
The scuffle over, the girls are steered over toward the bird. They approach cautiously, sniffing as they go.

Lucy checks out the front end and Ellie the back. The doggie sniff test is an important part of checking out anything.

Lucy becomes bored quickly, but Ellie remains to continue to check out the new sculpture.

Following this burst of activity, the girls come back inside. Yes, another photograph of Ellie serving as Lucy's pillow. I do wish they were able to relax.

It's almost mid-June. School is out and for our area that means summer campers and tourists. We rarely leave home on weekends, but we have plenty to keep us entertained. Our Golden Girls provide plenty of amusement. We have the community trails to ourselves. We are treated to fledglings and watching the birds prepare for another nesting. Life is good.
Have a safe and wonderful weekend. Enjoy yourself and be kind to others.

Their day always ends the same way! Be it rain, shine, or new bird sculptures, they always want to snuggle up with each other back inside. They must be really attached to each other.. and you guys, really attached to them.

NC--it is interesting to me how much dogs go by smell as the information gathering source.
Our dog does something similar--anything, I mean ANYTHING has to pass her smell test. I go into a store, and when I come out she sniffs me to see where I was, who I saw, what I did etc.
We too have eclective yard art, though ours is more the hanging from trees variety.
Love the new bird.

So even big dogs find new things ... interesting. Mingus is a hoot to watch when something new is introduced! Many things, odd things, are scary to a pup.

They really are a frisky pair.

My Duke used to bark at the cement deer he encountered on our walks. It took him awhile to realize they weren't real animals.

I don't usually see these wonderful Fridays until several days after Friday (and I always remind myself to try to catch them on FRIDAY!) I came by this morning to do some catching up, and I see the beautiful Golden Gals. I thought to myself "this must be last Friday's - today's Thursday".

then it hit me... it is not Thursday!

lol- those gals made this Friday especially Golden for sure..

I really like the new bird!

Well, since we don't have hydrants...I suppose a flamingo will do.

Love this! Too funny. Waldo would have been barking at your new art. He's a little wary of "intruders".

The toy that they were given is made by Kong. They are the Dr. Noys' line. There is a link to them on the Kong website. Or you can go here:

I absolutely love the first wrestling photo. They certainly put on a good show of looking vicious! But, the last photo tells it all.

No barking or growling at the new piece of art? Our dogs usually approach anything new in the yard with a show of force, and only end up sniffing once they've established that they're the bosses of the yard!

This is adorable - They're beautiful girls & I do have a soft spot for goldens. I have cats, though - not dogs. LoL!
Love the title, too

LOL, the life of a dog where every new thing has potential for adventure. I love the shots where they first discover it. So cute!

I do like the bird! Your comment about why its a good thing to let dogs check see something ahead of time brought a slightly painful memory. Last week a tenter arrive in the middle of the night, putting up his abode, next to the camper where me and Baron were sleeping. When I let let him outin the morning he immediately rushed over to the previously unseen tent at 5 a.m. and began barking furiously. Not good.

I just LOVE the girls! :) I miss my old girl so much - when we walk, there's just fat labrador jake now...my old girl isn't by my side... :-( but these photos made me smile.

We have an influx of tourists this weekend -- some staying in the cove- two with motorcycles, but they aren't obnoxious about it as some can be.

Also LOVE the sculpture!
