LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

This is a terrible photograph and in the past I would not have posted it. I was shooting directly into the sun which was totally darkening the profile. But by golly, this is my first hummingbird sighting of 2009 and I wasn't going to miss it.

As usual, the hummingbird migration splits when it nears our mountains. They fly to our east, and to our west, and gather again north of us. So we have hummingbirds on all sides and wait in frustration until they visit us again. Yesterday, he finally came.

Yesterday was a brilliant day full of sunshine. Lucy loves to spend the morning in the sun. Honestly, that dog can sleep better than anything I have ever seen. She looks WAY too comfortable, doesn't she?

Today we are expecting some violent weather as the unstable fronts sweep across the Carolinas. I hope everyone remains safe from the storm.
If you are Christian, I hope you find renewal in this most holy of weekends. If you are not Christian, find your renewal in the increasing signs of spring. All of us need to keep in mind the earthquake victims, the ship's captain still held hostage, those affected by the fires in Texas, the weather across the southeastern United States, and all others who are suffering here and abroad.
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND WHEREVER YOU ARE. TRY TO THINK ABOUT THOSE LESS FORTUNATE THAN YOU. FORGET ABOUT YOUR LITTLE COMPLAINTS AND COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS. RENEW YOUR SPIRIT OF LOVING, GIVING AND FORGIVING. YOU'LL FEEL BETTER FOR IT.

Wow - you have a hummingbird already?! I guess we are going to have to get our feeders out! We just took all our feeders down and disinfected them after reading about a salmonella outbreak in goldfinches and pine siskens. We did find a dead goldfinch in the yard, so we figured better be safe and keep the feeders down for a few days.

Guess I'd better get my hummingbird feeders out, huh???? Wow--that's neat..

Love watching your Goldens sleep in the sunshine... I could enjoy doing that myself!!!

We're supposed to get some bad weather here today also. I LOUD thunderstorm woke us up about 6 a.m. this morning --and more is on the way!!! (Better than snow though! ha)

Happy Easter.
Hugs,
Betsy

Hummingbirds arrive about May 1st and stay here until early September. Maybe your visitors are on their way to the Adirondacks? My friend Kathy and I do an annual Easter Sunday picnic,... we go to some natural area and enjoy being on the land. It's the renewal of the earth for me. Love it!

Such a great sleeping dog series!
Yes, for Christians this is the time of renewal. Jews also with Passover. Last night the full moon was gorgeous.
Our renewal time--we attended a Maundy Thursday service where Faure's marvelous Requiem was the main portion of the service.

A beautiful post.....I am thrilled to share your hummingbird. We do not have them here. I did see one, when we visited South Africa. I have not forgotten the pretty little bird feeding from the flowers......you are so blessed to have them come visit...

I shall be thinking and praying for those less fortunate......I do most days......there is so much sadness in the world today......

BUT there are also a lot of good and wonderful people who bring love and light to others.....

I wish you a happy and peaceful Easter.....with the golden girls...wish I could sleep so easily!!!!

I wondered when you'd get a hummingbird. I've been following the migration of your hummingbirds on the web at the site you pointed out. I thought you must have them by now - but I didn't think of the mountain issue.

What a wonderful sign of spring.

And, as always, your photos make me want to hug your girls!

Lucy does look like she loves to sleep ... in the sunshine only better.

No hummingbirds are way yet. I don't blame you for getting a picture any way you could!

It's always a treat to stop by here and see the Golden Girls. Such perfect slumber.

I remember when the hummingbirds would arrive in Washington. They would come to the back door slider and look in at us, as if to say: Hang the feeder. We're here.

We always did as they requested. Grand little creatures.

Occasionally, I see hummingbirds in michigan. Since I live in an urban area, it's not too often. Have a good holiday, and stay safe from the storms. Your dog looks so content in those pictures. Makes me yearn to get another.

Thanks for your message at the end of your post. I must admit Lucy does look very comfortable sleeping in that sunshine.
We got through the day yesterday without too many problems. The warning sirens went off a couple of times but all we got was wind and rain.
Have a very blessed Easter.

Glad to see the hummer - none have stopped by at our place yet. Your dogs are so beautiful and look relaxed in the sun. Nice post - we also need ot remember the poor animal victims of Italy's quake - they have perished or have lost their humans. Let's hope this spring brings a blessed peace to all.
