LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays Are Golden

We have a wooded back yard with a little babbling creek. Our Golden Girls love playing back there. They can sprint on the two trails, play hide and seek among the laurel thickets, or simply wander around smelling the wonderful smells. Our little creek attracts all sorts of wildlife, each leaving a wonderful scent behind for the girls to sniff.

These photographs were taken by my husband. The girls respond much less to the camera when he is taking the pictures.

Ellie waits to see if we are coming down to play and to find out if it's all right for her to run. Lucy stands eagerly in the background as if to say, "Hurry Up!!!"

Our little coquette!

Ellie is certain something has been here. Who knows? It might still be hiding here?

The purpose of this photograph is not so much to show Ellie sniffing on the trail. It is to give some perspective on the size of this tree, the largest one on our property.

Of course there is only ONE stick in the entire woods! Both of them must have it.

Ellie is the victor and lies down to chew on her treasure.

Lucy finds another stick and joins in the chewing.

Sometimes the dogs will just stop to catch scents on the breeze. I often wonder what they are thinking.

"Oh my gosh! I just love being out here!!!"

My husband has spent quite a few hours clearing the brush from our creek to make it more attractive and accessible.
We have had an unbelievable week. From highs in the 60s to highs in the 30s. From calm skies to high gusting winds. From heavy rains to sunshine to a bit of snow. The old saying must be true. "If you don't like the weather in the mountains, stay around a few hours. It will change."

And so friends, the weekend is again upon us. Please take some quality time for yourself to do the things you enjoy. And have a safe and happy weekend.

They same the same thing about the weather here in Kentucky. Last week we had weather in the 70s one day and the next day it was in the 30s with freezing rain. Your dogs look so sweet.

I love how they want the same stick - a little rivalry there! Their happy faces are a joy to see!

It looks as if you have a perfect place for the girls to play and, of course, for you to enjoy. We've had a share of your weird weather here in Tennessee as well.

D's sister used to have a Golden Retriever and she too loved to chew on sticks. What a wonderful thing, to have such a creek on your property!

Dogs just love running around in the woods. So beautiful, much like today's NC weather right now--because you're right: Who knows what it'll be like in a few minutes?

The girls have truly won the lottery!

They are truly the most golden. I think they are just about the most beautiful of the dog world. Your pictures show that clearly. As a former upland game hunter though the only thing that scared me off about them was combing them out after running thru thickets!

How neat to have a creek in your yard! The girls look like they are really enjoying it. The weather has been crazy here too Carolyn. Just like there with highs from the 30's to the 60's.

What a wonderful backyard, those are beautiful dogs and very lucky to have all that. My Jake of 11 years would of loved to play with your girls, but he is running at the bridge.

Thanks, everyone. I'm so glad you like seeing our girls.

Troutbirder - We are fortunate that we had our contractor build a dog room, complete with shower and grooming table. The girls know to come directly to that room when they come inside. And the room is just inside the foyer. I must admit, it is a big problem after the Mountain Laurel finishes blooming. Those sticky little blossoms are a bit tricky and stick like magnets.

Margaret - I'm sure you cherish the memories of Jake. Perhaps he is running with our Springers, Tipsy and Penny.

I'm hearing that the Obamas are considering a golden from a shelter - I thought there was an allergy issue....but wouldn't that be wonderful fun for the girls?

Helen - I'm surprised the Obamas are considering a Golden. Not a great choice for allergic folks...lot of dander and lots of hair. Even with a Golden in the White House, Lucy would definitely consider that SHE is still the first dog!

Hi Carolyn. Am so glad to "meet" you, and of course, your girls! Heard about you through my friend, Betty Jo, at Digi Scribbles. Am amazed that you have Goldens, as they are on my all time favorites list. I did frequent petsitting for two Goldens, while in Oregon, and absolutley lovvvvvvvvved them. Seeing your darling dogs, having a ball in your awesome back yard, was a total delight. What fun you must have with them! Great photos, too.

Having lived in western Carolina, I am thoroughly enjoying your posts, and photos. Some new places, some familiar. So glad you are blogging! Would love to have you visit me over at Mountain Meadows. Hugs :-)
