Trick or Treat

We don't have trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood. The houses are pretty far apart and the terrain is very hilly. In fact, we have no children living on our street.

Our neighbors have three young grandsons who visited on Halloween. So the neighbor called several of us to give us a "heads up" that the boys would be out trick-or-treating. They would come to our house last, since we are across the street.

I remembered our trick-or-treat days in which we covered a lot of territory and got a lot of candy. I realized these children would go only to six or seven houses and wouldn't have a lot of loot. So I purchased three large bags of assorted candy. Imagine the surprised looks on their faces when we dumped an entire bag of candy into each treat bag! It was priceless.

Ellie and Lucy were fascinated by the colorful costumes. They were very good girls and remained at a "sit/stay" while we distributed the treats. You will notice that Lucy (on the right) seems very interested in something around the door. She was looking at my husband who was getting the candy from the dining room table.

I love seeing children in their Halloween costumes, and I thought I would really miss trick-or-treaters. But you know what? I really didn't. There were no kids taller than I, no mothers with infants carrying treat bags for "the baby," and no more hungry looking children whom I wanted to bring inside and feed. No more parents standing in the yard grabbing a smoke, and no more carloads of children from other areas of the city. I'll be content to treat my neighbor's grandsons and call it a night.

This is a great picture as your dogs look at the costumed children...but your one dog who is more interested in looking at your husband with the candy is like our dog...Sydney, he eyes that candy to the child's bag...and he has NEVER had a piece of candy in his life!!! lol

You would have loved being at my house as I had 200 plus kiddies and the parents tagged along too..many dressed up! Our neighborhood goes all out in decorating the outside...the KiD in me really comes out then...all my gouls did the trick or was it the screaming sounds....ahh it was fun...and
(((((I ran out of candy!!!!)))))
I wondered why your dogs looked so relaxed because my pets hide in the basement until it's all over.
They are (((scardy CATS)))

Halloween, like everything else, has really been all blown up, hasn't it?

I agree with Tina, these pictures are excellent. Those children will not forget your generosity.

I'm not a big fan of scare costumes. It seems the most creative ones are the ones that aren't scary. My favorite thing about Halloween: all things pumpkins.

Oh, I laughed through this whole post. Sure, I reflected on Halloweens of the past on my most recent posts. But the truth is, I'm done with it. Until I have grandchildren, maybe.

Your dogs make me jealous. Chloe and Bella would be hooting and hollaring at those kids and I'd be shouting to the dogs, "GET BACK, GET BACK, GET BACK!" lol!

Love the goldens being so NICE---just sitting there!!!! Most dogs are not that well-behaved. Be prepared though for next year.. Once the word gets out that you give an entire package of candy to each child, I'll bet you have more than three trick-or-treaters! ha ha

I know what you mean Carolyn. I am weary of the 16-18 year old crowd anymore. Please. It's for little kids, for goodness sakes. Don't come to my door and hold out a pillowcase.

Your girls were so well behaved. :c) Glad it was fun to "treat" the three visitors.

We only have the five neighborhood children but they looked very cute in their costumes. We live on a dead end street and it is very dark even though we leave our outside lights on.
