LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

I'm Voting for the Pumpkin

I must admit it feels very strange. Today is Election Day and I'm not going to the polls. We have early voting in NC, and I voted last week. I didn't think it would be the same, but it really was, complete with long lines. But I still feel as if something is missing today.

So, I'm going to vote again...for the Pumpkins. For many years, a local real estate agent has erected a pumpkin man and woman on her property. The property was sold last summer. As fall began to arrive, everyone wondered if we would see the pumpkins again.

Well, the new owners outdid themselves. Once again, Mr. and Mrs. Pumkin are waving at the traffic.

I love the use of various pumpkins and squashes. Note Mr. Pumpkin's neat mustache.

The poor Pumpkins. They are looking and waving at cars on the highway. Meanwhile, this view is just behind them.

If you are not in a "early vote" state, get down to the polls and VOTE. Take your iPod, book, newspaper or anything you need to pass the time in line. This may be the most important election of your life. Be a part of it!!!

I love those pumpkin people. They must be quite heavy and require sturdy supports. May the best man win. What happens in America will affect the world. I know who I would vote for...

I understand what you're saying - we voted back early in Oct...(no chance we needed to wait and see if we changed our minds), but this is still "election day." Hope I can get through it without stressing out completely. Mt grandchildren are coming to stay with me while my daughter takes people to the polls, so that will keep me busy.

Oh too funny--pumpkin people. That's a new one for me--around here we have many things that pop up in the fall not seen otherwise. Example--corn mazes everywhere. But no pumpkin people. Love it.

Love, love, LOVE, the pumpkin people! You folks over in Transylvania Co. know how to have fun! Meanwhile, the kids and I will be walking downtown to vote here in Henderson Co. this afternoon, and I bet we won't pass even one pumpkin person. Life is cruel sometimes...

Love the pumpkin people...are they waving hello to a brave new world or goodbye to a way of life we thought was never going to end? No lines here after all got to their work places...in and out and voted!

Ruth - Yes, no doubt our election will be felt worldwide.

Lynne - Yeah for you and Art.

Helen - I'm really stressed as well. After being so sorely disappointed in '04, I'm afraid to expect too much.

Mary - You wouldn't believe how many tourists stop and ask someone to take a picture of them with the pumpkin people.

Donna - We had a similar display in WI. They had two adults and two children and some very clever themes.

j.h/ - Thanks for dropping by.

topsytechie - glad you dropped by and equally glad you are voting. We drive to Hendersonville often, especially for fresh fish from the Fresh Market.

Cheryl - I can hardly contain my enthusiasm. Don't know how long I'll be able to watch the returns. It might take more than one glass of wine.

Jayne - That sounded more like something Susan might say! We do not have R-rated pumpkins in the mountains. :)

Tina - Yeah for no lines!
