Birds in the Backyard

At any given time both in summer and winter, we have birds in our backyard forest. Our winter friends include the usual goldfinches, chickadees, nuthatches, titmice, Carolina Wrens, woodpeckers, and the occasional Cardinal.

Sometimes we take these birds for granted as we seek to find unusual migrating birds. So this post is to honor our "bread-and-butter" birds. The faithful ones we can always count on. Even in the coldest weather, they come to see us and sit puffed up on the bare tree limbs.

So, continue to enjoy the migrants. Continue to chase after exotics and rare birds seen in your area. Continue to travel for birdwatching trips. But also look around you and be thankful for your winter birds. Dull as they are compared to summer plumage, they bring lightness and joy on the most dreary of days.

To have such beauties so close is a blessing......I love the birds that stay with me all year.....they become friends as I feed them and get to know them......

I love your photographs and love to see what shares your space.....

You are sooo right!
..all I have to do is visit the local wild bird store and see all the other people standing in line with me with an arm load of purchases and I, quickly, realized how much everyone "loves" their backyard birds!! What would we do without them!!

Great picutres. I love seeing others backyard birds too. Yes we do spoil them, but it's worth it for the amount of enjoyment they give us.

Oh yes, the regulars are as wonderful as all the exotics in the world - these are great!

It's true, it's always the unsung heroes that get lost in the shuffle ...

I agree! Carolyn, last winter I had about 30 Cardinals!!!! I never tire of seeing them. We do enjoy our regulars, don't we?

I'm jealous of your Tufted Titmice photos. Those darn birds must hate my camera.

I had many of the same birds in my backyard today also, Carolyn. However, we had rain all day---and the birds were pigging out at our feeders. My blog tomorrow will show you more!!!! Thanks for your pictures. These birds are ALL so special!!!!

Two bird feeders are filled here on my front deck and the regulars are flying in for breakfast and supper. I had them ready so they would be there before our first snowfall which just happened overnight. A whopping deep one inch! That pic of the cardinal is an amazing shot, worthy of any calendar or Christmas card!

Indeed they do Carolyn. I love that term.... bread and butter birds! So fitting. :c)

You always have such beautiful bird pictures! I am jealous! The tufted titmice are some of my favorite bread and butter birds here, along with the nuthatches, goldfinches, juncos and jays. I haven't seen many cardinals this year.

Loved your birdie photos! And the goldfinch was looking straight at you as if to say "hello, can I help you?"

A good reminder! Titmice are what we have most right now.

I wish a Titmouse was a usual bird here. I have yet to see one. Great pictures!
