And Once Again We Grieve

WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?  WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?  WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?  WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?  WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?  WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?  WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?  OH WHEN WILL WE EVER LEARN?

Thank you for this. Poignant in every way. When will we ever learn? Sigh.

Historically, the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history; historically, the worst attack on the L.G.B.T.Q. community, eclipsing the horrific New Orleans arsonist attack of June 24, 1973 (see Jim Downs' piece, NYTIMES.com). Too many are reacting as if this is another 9/11. My read is that this was a hate crime committed against a gay bar by someone who wanted to be considered a Jihadist but really was a person taught from early on to hate gay people.

After a mass killing, every official begins with "our hearts go out to the victims and their families." Of course they do, but after the umpteenth time their words become empty and signify nothing. What is required is action, and not just words.

This has got to stop....somehow. Senseless. Heartless.

If dozens of dead little first-graders didn't move those stony hearts, then I doubt this will, either. It's the shame of this nation. It embarrasses me as an American to have to constantly disavow this part of the country's culture when I travel outside the US.

"WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN" is the correct phrasing here. I don't have to learn what I already know: this country needs more gun regulation, less guns, more tolerance, and less kowtowing to the NRA.

What Nance said.

And the smug, self-serving moments of silence in government are getting on my one last nerve. If they don't have the balls to buck the NRA and do something meaningful, those congresspersons need to be voted out.

The egomaniac leaders who care more about keeping the NRA's approval than the lives of Americans are leading us down this path of destruction. I'm sad for the senseless deaths, and I'm disgusted with all those who are "owned" by the NRA.

Amen. So sad & furious...

so proud of those who walked out on Congress' latest moment of silence for the victims. This is largely a problem of the GOP, damn their black hearts.

How many times must this happen before as citizens of this country we say--ENOUGH. And that enough of us say ENOUGH. And than no one runs out to BUY a gun because someone massacred a whole bunch of people with a gun.
What is wrong with our humanity that the response is to buy MORE guns?
I really don't understand it.
In the long run it is such suicidal behavior.
