LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

We Love Lucy

I take a lot of photographs of Lucy sleeping.  Like most active dogs, she also sleeps a lot.  And she often sleeps in strange positions that look rather uncomfortable.  She will use anything on the floor for a pillow.

A pair of shoes will do nicely

And sometimes she actually hangs her head off the bed rather than a pillow.  One of her favorite sleeping positions is with her head completely under my husband's recliner.

 Snoozing away

And sometimes she just stretches out in the sun

We've had a strange weather week with the heat on for a few days followed by a few days of air conditioning.  This morning was misty with heavy fog.  By ten o'clock the sun was shining brightly.  A common Autumn weather pattern here in the mountains.

The leaves are changing but a lot of them a simply dropping off.  It doesn't look like a great year for color.  But even a bad year for color is a gorgeous time.  And we love it.

Today's quote is from Sara Teasdale and seems to bring me tranquility no matter how angry I am at the recent SCOTUS ruling re-instating our new suppression voter laws by overruling the Appeals Court:

The leaves fall patiently
Nothing remembers or grieves
The river takes to the sea
The yellow drift of leaves

HAVE A WONDERFUL AUTUMN WEEKEND, EVERYONE!

love the photos of sleeping Lucy. I have a golden, and a chihuahua named Lucy. The golden, Boo, has been sleeping outside most nights lately. Don't know why.

We continue to have very hot weather and are waiting for the cool of autumn to set in. It is strange to watch the leaves turn when it's 97 degrees outside.

I wish I was snoozing in the sun - I would dream of golden leaves drifting downstream...

Dogs and toddlers can find comfort in the darndest positions. Lucy isn't about to let anything interfere with her sleep.
She is adorable.
We are just turning here but I am not expecting much in the way of color.

Lucy is such a beauty and I love how she can find anywhere to lay her head. Our week has been cool with rain and then will warm up tomorrow. Hope you have a fantastic weekend.
Hugs, Noreen

It is the season for sun puddle naps. I love that photo - Lucy looks so content.

NPR had a whole story about NC's voter suppression today... yes, we all need tranquility to offset that kind of thing.

Sometimes it takes poetry and nature's beauty to remain serene in the face of such blatant skulduggery.

Whatever position she's in or laying on, Lucy looks so peaceful and content!

We've had a lot of leaves drop too--Doesn't look to be a pretty fall for us either!

I hope you're enjoying your weekend! And it was fun to learn that you also enjoy Williraye figurines -- Not many know what they are.

Sweet Lucy. And I love Sara Teasdale poetry from long ago...:)
More currently Joe Klein did not write very kind things about N.C.'s legislature in this weeks Time. Well deserved though apparently...

I've often wondered if you are going to get a companion for Lucy but she seems to have accepted her life as is.
As for North Carolina ... I get disgusted with so much that is going on in this State. I moved here in 1978 and watched us crawl out from some pretty antiquaited ideas ... now we seem to be going right back ! I hate it.

I know that sleeping Lucy look. Our dalmatian is either alert and active or sleeping. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I recognize your beautiful mountains. I grew up just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Virginia.

Best,
Bonnie
