LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays Are Golden

We built our house with a very large den.  It has heavy furniture and is an ideal place for the dogs to romp a bit indoors.  They have a little tug-of-war every morning and wrestle for a while.  When Lucy tires of the game, she takes the tug toy, flipping it over her nose.

Often she will grab another toy and make a new one with it surrounded by the tug.

In the absence of rain, the Golden Girls would much prefer to be outdoors.  They run in the woods, gather sticks and often just explore the sights and scents.

Lucy is our sight hound.

And Ellie is our scent hound.  Each morning brings new scents of the animals who share our woods.

Lucy pauses to watch Ellie.  She is deciding whether or not to join her.

And every evening they lie together until bedtime.

April is almost gone.  We had a good freeze last night.  Yes, a couple of days after I planted my little herb boxes and we put out the summer baskets.  We huddled them together on the deck and covered them with a sheet.  They are fine and today we might reach 70.  The weekend will be much cooler than normal with lots of rain.  Good weather for reading, knitting, or catching up on some recorded television.

Today's quote is from Lemony Snicket:

"At times the world may seem to be an unfriendly and sinister place, but believe that there is much more good in it than bad.  All you have to do is look hard enough, and what might seem to be a series of unfortunate events may in fact be the first steps of a journey."

And the first steps of the journey always begin today.  Grab it and run.

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, EVERYONE
WHATEVER STEPS YOU ARE TAKING!

I love Lemony Snicket (especially the audio books - they're read by Tim Curry).

I think I should go out & see what I can see & smell in OUR neck of the woods this weekend!

those girls lying together in an embrace is the sweetest thing.

strange weather - glad your newly planted things made it through the freeze. No global warming here. Nope.

I'm spending the weekend with friends in Grass Valley, and taking a workshop on 'non-violent communication.' The mountains are the perfect setting for this.

I could never tire of seeing those beauties sleeping together. They make me smile and think maybe all is right with the world.
That one picture of Lucy is stunning with the sun making her feathers glow.

I always enjoy the photos of your girls, they really are bonded to one another and it shows!

You're having the same weather we are--We are headed to Tennessee this week, and hope to find warm weather, but it looks like it may be rain.

Ouch! Sorry about your plants.

I heard the weather guy say that we could have a freeze in our area... in MAY! Hasn't happened since the 60's. I hope he was wrong.

I love the photo of the snugglers.

I enjoyed your post very much. It reminded me of when we had two dogs. Now, we have just one and I am the one to play with her on a rainy day. Thanks for sharing. I have been planting like crazy, but only plants that can withstand the cool weather.

I marvel at your girls sleeping touching each other. Mine are 99 times out of 100 far away from each other.
Hope you haven't been washed away today...boy this is a lot of rain!

I do love that quote. It is often easy to see in retrospect but harder to see during the first few steps.

Your girls are so affectionate with each other. We've had many pairs of dogs, and very few were so inseparable as your Golden Girls.

Thanks for your comments, everyone. I must admit I sometimes worry about how Lucy always wants to be so close to Ellie. And I don't like her lying on Ellie's joints so I watch closely to make certain Lucy is not lying directly on her.
