LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

End of April Showers

Seems I've written a lot about the weather recently.  Perhaps that is because April's weather has been very strange...rain, hail, ice, temperatures well above normal and well below normal.  We know that April showers bring May flowers but we really did not expect such a deluge on the last weekend in rainy April.

Fortunately my husband has finished spreading the new pine straw and fertilizing the plants.  So we did just what Henry Wadsworth Longfellow suggested, "The best thing one can do when it's raining is to let it rain."

And rain it did; more than four inches Saturday and Sunday.  Looking out the garage toward the driveway.

Lots of rain

On this side as well

Wet yard bird

Wet hummingbird feeders (and birds as well)

Did you think for one minute the rain would ruin our grilled dinner?

Not a chance.

This morning has dawned sunny and bright.  The pollen count is down and the rivers are full, overflowing in some areas.  We need a week of sunshine please.

It's so pretty, even on a rainy day! The grill umbrella tickled me.

I don't know what your weather reports say, but ours says we're in for a week of more rain. MAYBE it'll soften the ground enough that I'll be able to dig out some of the monkey grass that's been bugging me for a decade or so.

The rain there looks so beautiful. I confess to being envious of your weekend downpour. We need rain here and there's not a hint in sight.

seems we always want what we don't have. you have water, you want sunshine. you have sunshine, you want water (like us).

I love the umbrella over the grill. Practical. Do not let it rain on your parade! (or grilling)

We had a torrential downpour here, as well. With hail. It was awful!

Your yard looks great, in spite of the rain.

You have a lovely yard. We have had lots of rain here in KY too. Walking in some parts of my yard is like a bog. I do feel all the gardens and farmers are happy about this though. -- barbara

So often when I read your posts I realize how large the State of North Carolina is ... my area has had a bit of rain and one torrential downpour but otherwise it's been dry...nothing like ice and hail. Maybe that's why we are called "The Sandhills" !

Your yard is just beautiful. The pine straw really sets it off. I was surprised that you have your feeder out for the Hummers. They haven't made it here yet.

Good luck with getting some sunshine.
I love your yard. It looks like a little piece of paradise.
Never saw an umbrella over a grill before. Great idea!

I would gladly send you lots and lots of sunshine because we haven't had any measurable rain here since December. It looks as though there won't be any rain until maybe November. I sure wish we could trade!

Maybe you'll get the sunshine that we're losing now. I hope so, for your sake. Imagine the flowers after all that rain!!!!!

It has been an odd April in lots of places, here included.

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Patti - We have had hummingbirds for at least two weeks now. And they are very active.

You all got a lot more rain than we did! Our lake level is really high, from all your rain.
Here's to a little sunshine.
