LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays Are Golden

Our weather has been rainy and foggy all week long.  Rivers are well above flood stage and many roads are closed.  The dryer has been running often as I try to keep up with the wet dog towels.  So I decided to use some photographs of the Golden Girls in better weather.  They both look rather shaggy given the number of times they have been soaked this week.  I wouldn't want you to think we don't groom them.

Lucy stops to think about something.

Ellie is her happiest when we are on the trails.

And they lie together on the floor.

Today's quote is a somber one but one worth heeding:

Somebody should tell us, right at the start of our lives, that we are dying.  Then we might live life to the limit, every minute of every day...Whatever you want to do, do it now!  There are only so many tomorrows.
Pope Paul VI

On Sunday night, the last night of a terrific winter vacation, a good friend and neighbor died in his sleep.  He was only 61, trim, active and apparently healthy.  When his wife called me from Mexico I was shocked beyond belief.  And as I told our other neighbors and friends they could not believe it either.  His death has definitely made all of us think more about our own mortality.  And so we should.

Godspeed, dear Joe.  You are gone way too soon and we will miss you.

HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE!!!
HUG YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR FRIENDS
LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE LIMIT

The girls are beautiful, as always!

I'm so sorry about the neighbor. Hope there won't be any problems getting him home.

Sounds like my D! I feel for his wife who as not only lost her husband suddenly and unexpectedly but must deal with all the extra stuff of him dying out of country. Death legalities are enough without the added burden. Oh the shock of it all. I really was in shock that whole first year ... almost like I was outside of myself. My D was 60 going on 61 when he died. Probably the same kind of heart attack???

Yes your girls are lovely. Having my Mingus around is such a comfort and I know your girls give you much joy as well.

Sorry about your friend. Your quote by the pope is very good. The Buddha would say almost the same thing.-- barbara

So sorry to hear about your friend and neighbor. Been thinking about death a bit more lately. College friend is in the hospital with a lung and brain tumor. She keeps saying that nobody gets out of this life alive. Heartbreaking.

Are your girls as muddy as my boys are? The Aussie seems to find the most mud.

Just heard the news about an old friend from the old days who died suddenly last Saturday at the age of 64. Yes, news like that helps to remind us about what's really important everyday.

I got a kick out of your worrying that we might think you "don't groom your dogs". The way you care for those ladies ... there is no way I would think that !!
Yes, we had the same weather here but today is lovely.

So sorry to hear about the loss of your friend Carolyn. No, none of us is guaranteed the sunrise tomorrow, but how easy it is to become complacent and not live every single moment.

Jayne said it right. Mayo Clinic called this morning to inform Barb that her oncologist had been killed in a car accident in the Twin Cities on Saturday. She was scheduled for her annual tests and consult with him in two weeks. So it goes.....

The girls are beautiful, and somehow dogs seem to inherently understand that they shouldn't waste a moment of their precious lives.

I'm so sorry about your friend... Shocking and terrible.
