LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

What a strange week we have had.  Nothing, however is strange about Lucy's idea of sharing.  Sharing the bed with Lucy means she takes almost all of it and Ellie gradually gets pushed under the chair.

Lucy, you have a bit more than your share.

Really?  It seems just fine to me.

Yes, you are taking almost all of the bed, and Ellie was there first.

Yawn...I couldn't be less interested.

I'll just stretch out and part of me will be off the bed as well.

I'll just snooze here for a while.  And Ellie better not move and wake me up or I will growl at her.

I have come to the conclusion that most of our elected leaders have lost compassion for their fellow citizens.  Here in NC, our recently elected Senate and Congress are spending their time on the following issues, all of which show that they lack compassion for fellow citizens.  Bills are afloat to make it even more difficult for a woman to make the hardest decision of her life by establishing a waiting period and mandating a sonogram.  If the woman refuses to look at the sonogram, a physician would be required to explain in detail what is seen.  Our NC Congress is looking at a bill to ban marriages except between a man and a woman.  Because, as one Representative said, "All children deserve to have a mother and a father."  [Does he actually think there are no single parents out there?]  Another said that marriage must be ordained by God.  [All right, then does that void any secular marriages performed by a judge?  Or that you cannot get married if you don't believe in God?]  And in the interest of big business that paid for their Congressional seats, we have a bill that would deny the right to sue a company for failed medical devices or drugs if those devices/drugs were FDA approved.  [Do they have a clue how the FDA approves such devices?]  Almost all of the funding cuts involve taking away from the poor, from the children, and from the disenfranchised.

The Trappist Monk Thomas Merton said:
The whole idea of compassion is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all living beings, which are all part of one another, and all involved in one another.

But our leaders seem to have adopted another quote, this one from Animal Farm:  All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.

If we are to succeed as decent human beings, we must have more compassion for one another.  So this weekend, do some self-inspection and try to pull up more compassion for others.

AND HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEKEND, EVERYONE!

It really does defy comprehension, this disdain that elected officials have for people - well, people without money anyway.

Don't know where I saw it, but a chihuahua was sleeping in the Great Dane's bed and vice versa - or least using it for a pillow. Too funny and I thought of your two golden girls and how beautifully they share, lol!

Billboards? Oh, why not. Clean water? Eh, not so much. Guns? Oh sure, everybody who is anybody should be packin' heat. School funding? (yawn)

Their interest is going on in everyone's bedroom.

Their logic? "Girlie, you gotta have this baby. After that, do whatever you want to with it. It's your problem."

It's a darned good thing Lucy isn't allowed on the furniture. I can picture her now, leaning back in the recliner, remote in paw...!

These bills that you have shared sound ridiculous...I hope the rest of the people feel the same way and put a stop to them.
Lucy...she is living life to the fullest isn't she???
Have a great weekend!

And all from a party that says it wants less government.

My hope is that they'll every one of them be raptured away tomorrow and leave the rest of us to get on with building a decent society here on earth.

Those are some deep thoughts! I think we could all learn to take lessons from the pups. A nap does wonders, and pillows are the only things worth arguing over!

Actually in real life Ellie and I have a lot in common.... but I won't go there any further as my spouse often reads the same blogs. Actually the legislative leadership in our usually progressive state is on a similar disgusting kick and and... It's helped me find much more time reading for reading about long ago centuries. The people who lived in the castles and chateaus on the hill were much more open and honest about their disdain for the common people and their exploitation of them. In other words, ostrich like, head in the sand I find much of what going on these days to appaling even to think about. :(

It seems our politicians have never heard the word, moderate. They're either one way or the other and have no idea what middle ground may be. I don't care for extremism in any direction.

That said, while I have no proof as it happens when I'm sleeping, I have been called a bed hog, too.

In terms of our views of politics, you and I are on exactly the same page as far as I can tell.

I love Golden Fridays. Your girls are so wonderful.

Your comment about the rapture over at the Chit Chat Room made me laugh out loud!

Hello, I stopped in for a visit from another blog, Beyond the Gaarden, and enjoyed reading through this post and a few other recent ones. We were in NC all last week and stayed in Bryson City so my husband (and myself too) could ride the Great SMokey Mountains RR. We were also able to spend a day at Great Smokey Mountains NP where we drove to and then hiked up to the observation tower at Clingman's Dome for a magnificent overview. We're currently living on the VA eastern shore and there are NO mountains here. I'll be revisiting again and invite you to stop in for a visit at our place where we've done several posts about our recent NC visit.

Unfortunately, we have the same issues in Tennessee. Yes, big business provides the money for election campaigns, but people elect these turkeys. Get out the vote!
