LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

An Evening by the Lake

The lake near our house is usually quiet. No loud motors, no jet skiis. Just kayaks, pontoons, canoes smoothly gliding through the water. The other side of the lake is louder, with a large park and a swimming area. The sounds of children playing and swimming echo over the lake.

But our end of the lake is almost always serene, and never more so than at dawn or dusk. I especially love the lake when the mist is rising.

I sit there, letting my mind go blank and momentarily forgetting about anything I might be worried about.

A little swallow takes in the last rays of sunshine.

The trees turn black as the sun sets behind them.
As I leave the darkening lake, I always feel calm and refreshed. I would love to see the lake awakening at sunrise. I am definitely a night person but perhaps I'll make it one of these mornings.

It sounds like such a calming place and beautiful. I think that I'd adopt your habit if I lived close to it. Those quiet moments in the day can make all the difference.

You are most fortunate to live so close to water.
I love looking at rippling water--a lake would be perfect. I will make do with a swimming pool. ;-)

What a peaceful place, Carolyn. You live in such a fabulous area.. Our lakes don't allow motor boats either... Most everyone has a pontoon.

I'm not much of a morning person either --but a beautiful sunrise WILL get me up!!!!

Great pictures.
Hugs,
Betsy

Carolyn, Thank you for taking me along to the lake in the evening - those photos of the mist rising are mesmerizing and magical.

I am decidedly a morning person and love to get up, watch the mist burn off the mountains as the sun rises. We don't have a lake up here, but the traffic is nonexistent, I can hear the horses stirring at the ranch, and the birds chirping.

Of course, that is all chattered when The Herd decides it is breakfast time and starts their breakfast song, but that is nice too.

Very nice. I did a "lake post" this week too, although it was actually more about my grandchild;. The scenery here is so divinely beautiful that it's mesmerizing at times, too. Off my deck I watch a river surrounded by layers of mountains. It's most lovely in morning and evening light. I feel my late husband's spirit nearby sometimes then, when my mountains are so breathtaking they seem sacred. You two are so fortunate to be living your dream. Thank your Creator and give each other a hug tonight for me, okay? Thanks!

How peaceful. Thanks for taking us to the lake with you.
I especially love your header photo. It reminds me of our visit to the Smoky Mountains a couple of summers ago.

Lucky to be near a fine lake. Beautiful evenings. I'm more of a sunrise person myself though. :)

I agree with you that the lake is most peaceful at sunrise and sunset. Every year we spend a week at a local lake. I love it that I'm always up before everyone else and sometimes get to enjoy the peacefulness alone.
