Looking Back at Last Tuesday

Impossible as it seemed this weekend, we had 10 inches of snow the previous Tuesday. It started early in the morning and snowed like crazy all day long.

This Cardinal was clearly as unhappy as I was to see all the snow falling. She glared at me as if I were to blame. Don't blame me, Ms. Cardinal. I'm the one who filled the birdfeeders for you this morning.

She sat on the deck rail for quite a while. She was waiting for the male to leave the sunflower feeder so she could have a turn.

Compare the size of the goldfinch to the snow he is sitting atop and you can appreciate the depth of the snow early in the day. More snow fell throughout the day.

The goldfinch gets a mouthful of snow along with the seed.

There was plenty of snow the following day. Looking back upon the scene, it was rather pretty. That's one good thing about looking back. It certainly wasn't very pretty when the snow was still falling with the wind blowing it in my face while I shoveled the driveway.

The yard birds stood looking very cold indeed.

This weekend was sunny and warmer than usual. I sat on the deck reading and soaking up the warm sun. I didn't need a jacket when I took the dogs for a walk. It was hard to imagine that I had been shoveling snow only a few days before. The sun does a body good after a freaky late snowfall. BTW: this season almost made records for snowfall, coming in a close second. Let's not try to break the record.

Indeed! Hard to believe it was less than a week ago.

Great cardinal shots!

The snow is so lovely. . . from HERE! (Sorry!)

Sunny here now, but we have three days of rain ahead. (sigh)

Lovely snow pics with those pretty birds! Now it's time for spring - whether here up north and definitely down south where you are!

Saturday we were sitting on a bench soaking in the sun with no coats on (high of +12C). This morning, a skiff of snow and -4C. Disappointing but it was bound to happen ... just too early yet for REAL spring.

Glad you are finally getting some sun after all that snow.

Lovely shots of the cardinal and goldfinch on the railing in the snow. I'm sure the birds are as tired of winter as we are. Enough. Bring on the blue skies and flowers.

These are wonderful photos and it is amazing how much can change in a day or two.
The sun does a body good...nice to feel the warmth on our skin after being so cold.
Enjoy!

Possibly we're through with the white stuff for the year...

Love your bird pictures - especially mama cardinal.

The snow shots are beautiful. It won't be much longer and the goldfinch will be turning a bright sunny yellow. It can't come soon enough.

Grins - early yet. We typically see our last trace of snow the first or second week of May. No way are we counting on this winter being over quite yet.

P.S. - It was a gorgeous weekend, even though I almost got stuck going down a fire road near the property. Still 8-10 inches of snow on that road and I did not have the chains on.

Wow, you sat on the deck and read, feeling warm! That's a day to be thankful for being alive!

It hit 45 deg here this weekend, and I jokingly asked my husband to start working on shoveling the deck that has about 2' of snow on it. With all that he's done helping me since my surgery, he gave me a long incredulous look that said that I'd be waiting for that snow to melt all by itself :)

I think that you and my husband have been playing similar roles (perhaps you could form a support group). Thank goodness for wonderful caregivers and shovelers!

It was 60 degrees in Detroit, today. I loved the feel of the sunshine on my face. I'm racing ahead to plant the garden, but will wait a bit for Mother Nature to make her next move.

Your photos are fabulous.

What a great comment about looking back! It does seem that the nice and pretty always stand out most, doesn't it?

I can't believe y'all had 10 inches a week ago!

So, any places we MUST check out while living in Greenville?

I love how that cardinal's crown is raised - she's a cutie! We're almost melted over here. REady for spring!!

We got a quick 3" but then it melted away by the next day as the temps rose. Like you, I can't believe just a week ago we had snow when it was 75 here yesterday!

We have had lovely warm weather which has melted a lot of snow. But it would be very unusual if we did not get another snow storm or two by April.

Thanks for your comments, everyone.

Marylee - Yes, rain for us as well and it's already started.

Karin - You've had much more winter than we so I'm sure you are really anxious for spring.

Herd - Sorry you got stuck. You can't always predict which roads will still be snow-covered. I'm often surprised to find more snow than I expected.

KB - I think the caregiver actually has an easier time than the injured. My husband LOVES to shovel and clear the snow and cringes every time I have to do any of the work he normally does. He's really anxious to be back to normal.
