It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government : of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

I have visited all but the WWII memorial. (hadn't been built at the time I was there) There is a hush that comes over the crowd when there,... and it's fitting. I send a silent salute to our service men and women and especially our fallen heros. (they are ALL heros!)

Very nice memorial post. I have seen the WWII Memorial which I thought was quite nice and the Vietnam Memorial which was moving. But I haven't visited the Korean Memorial which looks very interesting from your photo.

It's a beautiful tribute you've posted today. I love going to the memorials in DC, and I am always awed by places like Arlington, Antietam and Gettysburg. I'm very thankful for the freedoms I have which others have fought to maintain.

I'm not sure that I understood Memorial Day at a visceral level until a close friend served in Iraq for a year. He came back physically fine but a changed person.

Abraham Lincoln's words sum it up so eloquently.

Your tribute is beautiful. I hope to visit the WWII Memorial this summer in honor or my dad and all those who served. We own them all so very much.

I've never seen the Korean monument - didn't even know there was one. It looks very interesting and moving. My dad was part of that war. Next time I'm in DC I'll visit it.
