LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

Golden Retrievers with their heavy double coats do not tolerate heat very well. Surprising then, that they just love the sun. All day long they will "follow the sun" from window to window.

Lucy asks, "Mom, don't tell me you didn't bring my sunglasses!"

The girls especially love to lie in the sun on our deck. Not only can they soak up the rays, they can watch the birds and other animals as well.

These are views of Lucy on the deck, taken by hanging over the deck railing.

This is her very favorite spot to lie, her head resting on the lower rail and her feet hanging over the side.
The girls haven't seen a lot of sun this week. We have had rain on and off all week. We hosted a dinner party on Memorial Day for some of our neighbors. All three couples walked to our house. Just when it was time to leave, the heavens opened and it poured! We waited for the downpour to slack off, but it continued. So my husband drove our guests from our dry garage to their doorsteps.
----------Our county is one of only 14 counties still rated D0, meaning "abnormally dry." The remaining 86 counties have no drought designation at all. It is so refreshing to see the trees truly green and the forest so bright. And it uplifts the heart to see the water flowing so freely in the rivers and streams.
----------May, so full of promises, is almost over and June will bust out next week. The birds are so busy tending to their nests and we already have some fledglings. It is a wonderful time of year.
Have a wonderful weekend doing whatever pleases you. Stay safe and do something nice for those less fortunate.

I really love those angled shots of Lucy's nose and feet peeking through the railing. Ourdog Gidget is black and when she soaks up the sun her fur gets hot to the touch but her old bones really love the passive heat.

Came by to see the girls who are looking wonderful! My peeks don't tolerate sun or heat well and they will let you know when it hot and time to get under the AC! HA!
Have a great weekend!

We've had rain all week too, but today, the sky is blue and the sun is out. I may take my spinning wheel out on the deck for a bit.

I love the nose shots. It's the simple things in life that make living worthwhile-like following the sunny spots as the sun changes positions.

That is one adorable dog. And I love the way she observes the world around her.

A good weekend to you too.

ahh.. she is just so cute on that deck..don't you love the way they claim their sun spot and strike poses. I think they know this is just another antic we cannot resist. I'm amazed at how hot Jolly's coat is when she purposefully finds the patch of sunshine at 2 p.m. ... in 90 + weather .. arg.

I saw on the news where your area is still suffering (in fact I think I remember it was the only area in NC that had not recovered yet.) Those extended months of a "severe drought conditions" was a first for us (we're OK now.) It was scary stuff for a while.

Wishing you nice soft rains... and continued sunny spots for those beautiful Golden Gals!

Goldens are like Siberians - can't handle the heat but lay in the sun. Go figure. And because we live at 4500', we don't have AC.

Dry and windy here. D is back at work as of Thursday. Fire advisories are out!

Amazing what contortions dogs find comfortable. His little nibs is sleeping while I write. He had a long walk (at least for him), the longest ever ... up to get the mail.

I could take almost exactly the same photo of my dog, R, hanging his chin on the deck railing. In his case, he's keeping surveillance on the evil ground squirrels. I bet that your beautiful girls are much more mellow when they hang their chins off the deck!

I'm glad the rains are back, even if it gave a less-than-ideal end to your party! I just love the look of all things green - that's one thing I don't like about living in the city.

Lucy looks so cute sticking her nose through the bars. It is so funny - they choose such odd places to love to sleep sometimes.

Have a wonderful weekend!

I hope the rain continues to come. Perhaps then we will be able to see those wonderful waterfalls again.

When I was little I used to do that and got my head stuck once. They had to remove one of the posts to get me out. Looks like your golden girl is smarter than my mother's was.

Such a cute photo!

It really is true! If my Nugget doesn't get her golden tan daily she just stays in sleeping all day. She does the same thing with her paws on the deck.. Goldens really know how to live. I've always said, if people lived like Goldens the world would be a better place! Our week of rain was much needed last week, too!

What cute pictures! Our dog also likes to rest his chin on something like that. He has a black lab coat and when it gets hot, he rests on the basement floor.

Carolyn: The girls do look hot. That look through the deck reminded me of my goat photo from Friday.
