LIFE'S BETTER IN THE MOUNTAINS

Fridays are Golden

It's been a quiet week for the Golden Girls. The weather has been damp with sudden showers seemingly out of nowhere. The strong winds, thunder, and lightning meant no long runs through the woods.

So they have had one long walk in the morning and one long walk in the afternoon. The rest of the time outdoors was for short potty breaks. It surprises me that two such active dogs quickly adjust to temporary reductions in exercise. They seem content to follow us around the house and napping every chance they get. Sometimes I wonder if they are glad to have some time off. Perhaps it's because they don't like the rain.

They are always delighted when we have workers in the house. So many of them have dogs of their own and seem to like our girls. And you never know who might be carrying dog biscuits, either. This week we had our annual routine maintenance for the air conditioners. This is a great worker to watch, because he goes on three levels of the house and outdoors as well to check the indoor and outdoor units of the two heat pumps. He is in and out and moving all around...just perfect for following and watching.

Lucy and Ellie watch closely. We call this the "doggie door" since it opens to a small deck outside the dog grooming/sleeping room. Sometimes the girls seem to communicate wordlessly. I'm sure Lucy is saying something to Ellie.

Lucy looks at me as if she actually thinks I might let her go outside.

Both dogs watch the action outside. They wait patiently though, since they know they are not going anywhere.
The maintenance took quite a while, so the girls were tired when the work was finally over. Lucy had her head totally outside her own bed, and on to Ellie's.

I think Ellie would like for Lucy to move back into her own space.
Since Lucy remained where she was, Ellie made the best of the situation and tried to get some rest.

Another Friday is upon us, with May's promise that nice weather is coming. What a wonderful time spring is.
Have a wonderful and fun-filled weekend. Treat yourself to something you really enjoy. Go ahead...you deserve it!

I think those beautiful girls wanted to help the air conditioning guy!

If I let The Herd help, repair people would complain of missing tools as they are all thieves. But the biggest hero to The Herd is the UPS man because he is the one who delivers dog food. Funny, Fed Ex can pull in the gravel driveway and the dogs barely wakeup. But they let me know the UPS man is coming before he gets within a half mile of the house.

I love your golden girls. Such beautiful dogs. I once read that the windows of the soul can be viewed through a goldens eyes. They are a perfect breed.

Your dogs are delighted. Mine would be having a nervous breakdown.

"I certainly have a large supply of skepticism, but I don't really think of myself as a negative person."

David Hume was a skeptic among skeptics, but he also remained cheerful right up through his terminal illness. He attributed this to his constitution rather than his philosophy.

It never fails! Every Golden Friday, Ellie and Lucy always wind up sleeping next to each other!

Been a quiet week here, too.. I've been sick with a nasty cold, so walks have been few and far between. Thankfully, today I was feeling well enough to take Marge out for a while.

Love the pictures of the girlfriends. Looks like they have quite a stash of toys waiting for them whenever they tire of watching.

Hee hee, their so cute! Since I'm interior painter I often see dogs in people's homes. One home I worked at had a Golden named Lincoln. He loved to take my hand in his mouth and walk be around. They have such personalities!

Thanks for your comments, everybody.

Shelley - Oh, Lucy definitely wanted to help. She watches every little thing as if to say, "Now if I only had those opposable thumbs."

Thundering - Yep, our girls love the UPS man as well.

Rae - We always had Springer Spaniels before we got Ellie. I do believe Goldens are the best-natured dogs around.

Cheryl - I'm sure they would love to meet Nella. They get along well with other dogs and they would LOVE your garden.

Snowbrush - Thanks for dropping by. I haven't thought of David Hume since I was in college.

chicamom - Trading Wisconsin for Michigan...you need to get further south.

Sam - Hope you're feeling better. Those spring colds can be ugly.

So cute! I think one of the things I like most about the Golden Girls is they are always curious about what's going on around them. You can see the thought process in those mesmorizing eyes of theirs

It's great that the girls supervise the maintenance work that needs to be done around the house. Hopefully the coming week will be drier and they can get more time outdoors.

Well, I am sure that they know that soon enough the weather will turn. Here it has been very windy and rather cool. Can't wait to break out the t-shirts.
