We had an inch of rain recently. When I went walking out back, I was amazed to see that the ground had exploded with mushrooms. I've never before seen so many mushrooms of so many different types. I must admit that the only mushrooms I can identify (outside the grocery store) are morels.
We've had so little rain that it seems very strange indeed to see so many of them. So here, then are shots of some of the different mushrooms I found in my back yard. I did not include all the different types and I cannot identify a single one of them. Except for the ones in the last picture.
So how is it that I can identify the mushrooms in the last picture and not any of the others?Because I purchased them from my favorite potter. They are not real.

Ha! I was fascinated by that last mushroom until I read a little farther. I was wondering why I've never gotten such a cool looking mushroom!

Mushrooms are so interesting and I'd like to be with someone that was in the know for a few field lessons in I.D.! I agree with wayfaring wanderer ... trickster you are throwing that last photo in!

Carolyn: That first one may be Hen of the Woods and it may be edible. Not sure and they are usually at the base of a tree.
I thought that last one was the prettiest. Nicely tricked.
Lynne - They never decay or crumble.
Wanderer - We have more of them scattered throughout the yard.
Dog geek - We really like having the pottery ones. With so little rain, we haven't seen many real mushrooms this year.

Fishing guy - I thought the same, although it appears to be growing on the ground. I didn't see any evidence of a tree stump.

These are neat to see - the last mushroom is beautiful!
And I thought to myself, "wow, those lasts ones look almost fake!"

We haven't had rain for...well...forever, so I am eagerly awaiting the spore-fest to come.
